Dion was a friend to Orion Pax, the future Optimus Prime. He greatly admired the Decepticons and their ability to fly - right up until they shot and killed him.

He was not rebuilt into anyone.

According to writer David Wise, Ariel and Dion were intended to simply be characters to be killed to drive home how evil the Decepticons actually were. They were never intended to be reborn as anyone. While a last minute script addition made Ariel into Elita-1, Dion never had that luck.

He was never reborn as anyone. According to David Wise, Dion is Dion.
