Cartoon Overview
Responding to Bumblebee's signal that the Allspark had been located, Optimus Prime led his elite team of Autobots to Earth. He made his first contact with Sam and Mikaela, and became friends with them quickly. He is one of the most heroic of all Autobots, a paragon of justice and heroism.

Seeking the Allspark like the Decepticons, Optimus Prime wanted to ensure that it stayed out of enemy hands, lest they abuse its power to conquer the universe. He intended to sacrifice himself by absorbing the Allspark into his own spark, if it came to a sacrifice.

During the climatic battles for the Allspark, Optimus Prime was delayed in arriving at Mission City to face Megatron by the Decepticon Bonecrusher. Bonecrusher's utter disregard for human life meant Optimus Prime had to take action fast, and he beheaded Bonecrusher after only a brief struggle.

Optimus Prime made it to Mission City in time to save Sam from the Decepticons, who had managed to corner him atop a building. Unfortunately, he was too late to stop Megatron tearing Jazz in half. Optimus and Megatron proceeded to fight each other to a standstill, with Megatron even having a slight edge - although Optimus was probably holding back to prevent civilian casualties. It took an air strike from USAF F-22s to bring Megatron to his knees. Realizing that there was no other way, Optimus begged Sam to place the Allspark within his Spark, keeping it from Megatron, but Sam instead used it to kill Megatron in the same way.

In the two years that followed, other Autobots came to Earth as a response to Optimus Prime's message at the end of the first Movie. However, other Decepticons also appeared on Earth. One such Decepticon infiltration took place in Shanghai, China. Optimus Prime arrived in style, driving out of a military cargo plane in mid air, before transforming and deploying parachutes for a safe landing. He took on - and easily defeated - Demolishor, who delivered a dire warning to Optimus Prime - The Fallen shall rise again.

Politics got in the way of Optimus Prime's role as Earth's defender, though. The US government questioned whether the Decepticons were coming to Earth because the Autobots were also on Earth. Optimus Prime responded that if they were to leave, and the Decepticons still came, what would humanity do?

The Decepticons soon struck again, now led by a revived Megatron. Megatron was targeting Sam Witwicky, who killed him two years earlier. Exposure to an Allspark fragment had gifted Sam with information leading to a source of Energon to rival the Allspark. Megatron, and his master The Fallen, wanted the Energon, even if it meant removing Sam's brain. Optimus Prime arrived in time to save his human friend, but they were pursued by the Decepticons to a nearby forest. There, alone, Optimus Prime fought with Megatron, Starscream and Grindor. In spite of being outnumbered three to one, Optimus Prime was winning the fight, killing Grindor and lopping off Starscream's arm. But a glance to make sure Sam was okay meant for a split second Optimus Prime lowered his guard - and that was all Megatron needed to strike! Optimus found himself impaled on Megatron's new arm claws, and Megatron made sure to finish the job by firing his cannon. At point blank range, it was a certain kill.

Fortunately for Optimus Prime, Sam found a way to restore the Autobot Leader. Having endured becoming a fugitive, crossing a Decepticon warzone, and even a near-death experience, Sam had received the Matrix of Leadership, which he used to bring Optimus Prime back to life. The Fallen however stole away the Matrix of Leadership - it was what he required to activate his doomsday weapon, a Sunkiller. In awe at a living Prime, Jetfire sacrificed himself, offering his body up for parts which Ratchet and Jolt attached to Optimus Prime. This powered up Optimus Prime took on Megatron and The Fallen, disabling the Sunkiller with a single shot. Optimus easily defeated Megatron in his powered up form, and nearly as easily defeated the supposedly all-powerful Fallen, with a comment of "I rise. You fall."
