Classics Mirage is an Autobot formula 1 car, both his robot and alt modes are fantastic homages to the original G1 character.
Packaging
Mirage is part of the second wave of the "Classics" line, the packaging looks the same as the first wave in all aspects. The flip card is still present, as well as the embossed faction symbol on the top of the bubble. I won't cover this in detail since it has been covered in all of the wave 1 reviews I have done.
The back of the card, showcases both robot and alt modes, the 3 other figures (2 others from the current wave Jetfire and Grimlock, as well as Bumblebee from wave 1) Mirage's bio, and his technical data.
The bio reads as such:
Quote:
|
"You can't catch what you can't see." Together with BUMBLEBEE, MIRAGE completes the AUTOBOT spy team. Where BUMBLEBEE focuses on information however, MIRAGE prefers sabotage. Smart and fast, he;s always ready with a joke, even when the situation doesn't call for one. Though he is not totally dedicated to the cause, he cares deeply for his friends, and will do anything he can to protect them. His specialized elector-disrupter weapon can creat complex illusions, and even allows him to turn invisible.

Formula-1 Car Mode
Mirage is packed in car mode. After removing all of the twist-ties you are ready to start racing Mirage across counter-tops, or down hallways. Mine needed his front nose pressed in a little firmer, and a bit of the body to be pressed together tighter to remove the appearance of gaps.
I think his car mode looks wonderful. You will notice the same familiar number 26 that graced the original G1 counterpart, and what I find to be a rather nice addition is the logo of "Witwicky Sparkplugs" on his rear fin. All of these small details really tip a hat to G1, which just makes me smile.
The car appears to sit fairly well, but I had some troubles rolling it, this could be just a matter of transforming the figure better so there are not parts sticking out past the wheels, I had a little more luck after fiddling around with it a little bit.
Robot Mode
Now to robot mode. Transformation is quite simple, as is most of the Classics line. And much like the G1 version, the cockpit takes center stage as Mirage's chest, and the rear fins form his feet. The difference here is that the front fin is removed when transforming into robot mode.
A rather fine robot mode in my opinion. Looks great for today, and as a nod back 22 years. A fantastic update. The one thing I have a problem getting on board with is the use of the front fin of the car to be used as a weapon in robot mode. It just looks a little goofy to me.
I understand the reasoning behind it, but I am just not used to it yet. It doesn't look horrible by any means, just a little weird.
Overall
Overall I think Mirage is great. Both robot and vehicle modes look great and feel great. Add in the ease of transformation and the awesome throwbacks to G1 and you have a piece that screams what the Classics line is all about.
Overall I have to give the figure a
9 out of 10 it's a solid figure that any fan of Transformers should be able to appreciate.
