Cartoon Overview
LUGNUT is more a force of nature than a DECEPTICON. MEGATRON’s fiercely loyal but none-too-bright attack dog. He would gladly follow his leader into the depths of hell. Of the DECEPTICONS, only LUGNUT refuses to believe that MEGATRON is gone for good. When we first meet him, LUGNUT has devoted his life to preserving his beloved leader’s memory and vanquishing his foes. LUGNUT deems himself and any other DECEPTICON unworthy to take the mantle of leadership. Personality-wise, LUGNUT comes across as a cross between a pit bull, a Klingon and a manic street preacher.

Lugnut arrives on Earth with Blitzwing, following the beacon from the Nemesis, which had crashed into the moon. The first thing he did on arriving was to start attacking a construction site to draw the Autobots out so he could force the whereabouts of Megatron out of them. Naturally, he did not like it when Bumblebee suggested Megatron had burned up on his arrival to Earth and proceeded to unleash an array of powerful attacks, including a move Blitzwing called "the Punch", a rocket powered punch into the ground that unleashed a massive explosive shockwave knocking all the Autobots out of action.
Watching the battle, Megatron was sufficiently impressed with Lugnut's loyalty to contact him and direct him to come to the rescue. Following Megatron's cues, Lugnut scanned an alternate mode, and tracked the Autobots using the energy signature of Sari's key, which Megatron provided him with. With Blitzwing, Lugnut faced off against the Autobots under the surface of Lake Erie, making short work of them, until Ratchet and Sari activated the weapons systems on the Ark and blew them both away, severing Megatron's comlink connection with Lugnut in the process. The damaged Decepticon duo were then approached by Starscream who offered to repair them in return for their undying loyalty.

Repaired, Lugnut was once again contacted by Megatron. Starscream decided to let Lugnut follow Megatron's orders (not that he had much chance of stopping Lugnut either way). Lugnut was ordered, once again, to recover the Allspark, although this time, Megatron prioritized recovering Sari's Key. Lugnut obeyed and tracked down the Key, which was in the possession of Ratchet at this time. Lugnut, along with Blitzwing, easily defeated Ratchet and took the Key from him. They then delivered the Key to Megatron at Sumdac tower, where Megatron used the Key to restore his body.
During Part 2 of Megatron Rising, Lugnut took part in the attack on the Autobot's ship. First, he engaged in a dogfight with the ship and sent it crashing into a mountainside on an island. Then, on the island, he took on Bulkhead. In terms of sheer strength, Lugnut was able to make short work of Bulkhead, but Bulkhead managed to exploit Lugnut's habit of talking too much when he set off Lugnut's explosive punch prematurely with his mace. The explosion KO'ed Lugnut and left him out of commission for the rest of the battle.

In The Elite Guard, Lugnut is with Blitzwing and Megatron. Unlike the others, who have been repaired, Lugnut's arm is still badly damaged and not properly attached to his shoulder. He seems to have fixed himself, though, by Mission Accomplished, where he steals the Elite Guard's Tachyon Communicator right off the front of their ship. He then spends a lot of time repeatedly disposing of the intermittently dead carcass of Starscream (who promptly reanimates for another shot at Megatron, gets blasted, and Lugnut then disposes of the body).
In Garbage In, Garbage Out, Lugnut is dispatched to retrieve a fragment of the Allspark which has animated a pile of garbage as the Junkion, Wreck Gar. Upon finding Wreck Gar, Lugnut discovers he is impressionable and convinces him to swear loyalty to the Decepticons - though who knows if Wreck Gar actually meant it or was just copying Lugnut as he was prone to do. Things soon went sour, though, when Lugnut broke out his Punch, and Wreck Gar misinterpreted the flashing light on it as a form of the universal greeting and high fived it, setting the explosion off prematurely. When Lugnut then took to the air, Wreck Gar grabbed on and spilled some Allspark-altered metal eating nanites on Lugnut, eating through his tail. Ironically, Lugnut was saved by Wreck Gar, who unscrewed the affected tail sections, separating them from Lugnut. Lugnut crashed, but thanks to Wreck Gar, he was not eaten alive by the nanites!

Lugnut reappeared in A Bridge Too Close. With Blitzwing, he acquired a Headmaster unit from Sumdac Tower to intimidate Bulkhead into serving Megatron. Later, Lugnut would fight the other Autobots and Blurr, and would be defeated. Trapped in Stasis Cuffs, Lugnut was out of action until Scrapper rescued him. By that time, the battle was all but over - at least, until Ratchet showed up on board Omega Supreme. Lugnut went after Omega with his usual zeal, but got blown away by Omega's main gun.

Lugnut reappeared in Three's a Crowd, where after being taken down by the Autobots, he spent most of the episode stuck in the bottom of a crater until the Starscream Liar Clone rescued him. Embarrassed, Lugnut asked the clone to "never tell Megatron about this" to which the clone replied "of course". (As a pathological liar, he'll probably tell Megatron at the first available opportunity, much to Lugnut's own chagrin).

Lugnut was among the Decepticons that Sentinel Prime took into Elite Guard custody, with Lockdown's help, in "Five Servos of Doom". The fact that Sentinel boasted he was able to take down Lugnut, solo, when previously Optimus needed the best part of his entire team to handle the big guy is what really tipped Optimus and Prowl off that something was wrong. Lugnut was shipped off to Cybertron at the end of the following episode, "Predacons Rising".

Lugnut next appeared in "Decepticon Air", where he was interrogated by Sentinel Prime, but all Lugnut said was a variation on his usual "All Hail Megatron!" speech. After Sentinel Prime, Jetfire and Jetstorm left to guide the ship through a spacial anomaly, an energy surge caused Swindle to come back online. Swindle, on hearing that Lugnut served Megatron, freely handed over weapons for all of the Decepticons. The Decepticons - Lugnut, Blitzwing, Swindle, and two of Starscream's clones - quickly took control of the ship. Lugnut intended to kill Sentinel Prime and Jazz, but Swindle talked him out of it, and instead, Lugnut had all four members of the Elite Guard locked in the brig.

Responding to a distress signal from Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime boarded the ship by connecting Bulkhead and Isaac Sumdac's Spacebridge to the private transwarp that Swindle used to access his personal weapon storage dimension. Optimus, facing five Decepticons, quickly fled and dropped an elevator full of unstable Energon on Lugnut and Blitzwing, although in the long term, this did little to slow Lugnut down.

After Optimus freed the other Autobots, they once again faced Lugnut, Blitzwing and the Starscreams (Swindle, who had been left in charge of the Autobot prisoners, decided to instead loot the ship for everything that was not securely bolted down). Lugnut unleashed his punch on the Autobots, blowing a hole in the ship and jettisoning everyone into space (with the exception of Jazz who managed to get away). Fighting in space, Lugnut claimed the Decepticons had an advantage, but thanks to Jetfire and Jetstorm's flight abilities, and some unique tactics from Optimus Prime, the fight was about as balanced as it ever would be. In fact, by swinging Sentinel Prime around and launching him at Lugnut, Optimus Prime was able to defeat Lugnut, who was sent spinning, out of control into space, beyond the range of the other Decepticons to rescue him.

Lugnut eventually drifted into an area of space which Omega Supreme transwarped to, and was picked up by Megatron and the head of Starscream. Thanks to him, Megatron was able to gain full control of Omega Supreme and stop randomly transwarping around the galaxy. However, the revelation that Shockwave was Megatron's favorite servant left Lugnut fuming, and resulted in the two fighting in "Endgame Part 1". However, Lugnut's loyalty to Megatron was not unnoticed, as it made him the perfect candidate to receive the activation codes to Omega Supreme, to guarantee that Megatron's Omega Supreme clones would be completely loyal to the Decepticon leader. However due to a piece of the code being missing, Lugnut had to be in direct control of the three clones by way of Omega Supreme - which in Part 2 proved to be his undoing, after Arcee had her memories restored by Ratchet, she in turn activated Omega Supreme, who unceremoniously ejected Lugnut onto the surface of the moon.

Lugnut was later picked up and arrested by the Autobots who transported him back to Cybertron as a prisoner.

A version of Lugnut also appeared, bombing New Detroit, in Soundwave's virtual reality in "Human Error".

Lugnut is the only Decepticon, other than Megatron, to say the Decepticon version of Transform and Roll Out - Transform and Rise Up. He said this in "Decepticon Air".

Powers and Abilities

LUGNUT is incredibly strong, the Hulk to BULKHEAD’s Thing. He possesses the highly explosive "Punch of Kill Everything", which can destroy most targets when it makes contact with them, although as frequently demonstrated, such as in "Megatron Rising Part 2", if Lugnut's opponent can hit the detonator in the fist before Lugnut is ready to launch his attack, the explosive force can defeat Lugnut instead.

Lugnut Comic Book Information

IDW Overview

Lugnut idw Lugnut never gave up hope on finding Megatron alive at some stage. His faith was so great that he went as far as attacking anyone who claimed Megatron was dead - and in The Arrival #1, Blitzwing was on the receiving end of the attack!

Lugnut is also seen shaking down Oil Slick in the background of The Arrival #4. Oil Slick apparently made the fatal mistake of suggesting that Megatron might be dead in Lugnut's presence.

Blitzwing also makes this fatal mistake in The Arrival #5, which prompts Lugnut to blast Blitzwing through a wall. Blitzwing however buys weapons from Swindle to get even with Lugnut. Swindle, however, also sells weapons to Lugnut to keep the feud going. And so Lugnut uses a huge array of increasingly powerful weapons in his feud with Blitzwing up to and including planet-destroying Omega Bombs. However, when Lugnut and Blitzwing both use their doomsday weapons, they discover they are both protected by Nemesis Shields bought from Swindle. They make amends, and then Lugnut and Blitzwing both beat up Swindle and leave him as a crumpled ball.

The Arrival #4 also establishes the name for Lugnut's super powerful punch - the Punch of Kill Everything.

Notes
According to material published in issue #24 of the Transformers Collector's Club magazine, Lugnut is the consort of the Decepticon general Strika.

Lugnut's devastating punch attack was nicknamed the "Punch of Kill Everything" (or P.O.K.E. for short) by 2005 Boards member Beastbot X. The production team liked the idea so much that they decided to adopt it into the series somehow, and it was made canonical in IDW's Transformers Animated: The Arrival Issue #4.
