Cartoon Overview
Snarl was one of three animatronic dinosaurs from New Detroit's "Dino Drive" theme park. After Bulkhead accidentally trashed the original animatronic dinos, Professor Sumdac tried to repair them, with a little help from a newly-revealed Megatron. However, Megatron made some adjustments of his own, including adding in flame breath. Redubbed "Dinobots", the three were unveiled and proceeded to go berserk under Megatron's direct control, until a combination of Bumblebee's stingers, Ratchet's magnetic forcefields and Sari's key shut them down temporarily. In fact, it also gave the Dinobots life.

Reborn, Snarl followed Grimlock's direction and started attacking anything on four wheels, having been misled by Megatron. He was eventually defeated by Bulkhead, who threw him in a tar pit. Later, Snarl was rescued from being melted down by Prowl and Bulkhead, who transported the three dinos to a deserted island where they live in the crater of an extinct volcano. This is where Meltdown found them some time later, and with his acidic touch, managed to force the Dinobots to serve him. However, once Meltdown was subdued, Snarl transformed along with the other Dinobots to get their revenge on Meltdown's henchmen.

Snarl, along with the other Dinobots, made a cameo in Megatron Rising, when Optimus Prime journeyed with Prowl and Bulkhead to Dinobot Island to seek the Dinobot's help, with no success. He also appeared in The Elite Guard when Optimus Prime brought Sentinel Prime and Ultra Magnus to Dinobot Island to visit the crashed Autobot ship and the presence of intruders in their domain drew the attention of the Dinobots. They were, however, scared off when Ultra Magnus called down lightning with his hammer.

Snarl also appeared in Black Friday, where with the other Dinobots, he broke Meltdown out of prison and gushed over Blackarachnia then got beat up by Grimlock. Later, he came to Grimlock's aid and knocked out the Bomb-Burst mutant with his club.

He also appears in "Predacons Rising" where he is still serving Blackarachnia, and is taken out fairly easily by the Autobot twins Jetfire & Jetstorm. Sentinel Prime also poked him to make sure he was actually out of commission.

Snarl was later adopted by the castaway Constructicon Scrapper, and thus alienated from the other two Dinobots. In "Human Error Part 2" Snarl, along with Scrapper, was recruited by Sari as a part of her substitute Autobots, where he provided some much needed muscle fighting the Soundwave-controlled Autobots. After the battle, he returned to Dinobot Island with Scrapper.

Powers and Abilities

Like Swoop and Grimlock, Snarl can shoot fire from his mouth in dino mode. In robot mode, he wields a large club that can burst into flames.

Notes
Due to limitations with the voice-acting budget, it is unlikely that we will ever hear Snarl speak, according to the Animated Writers Panel at Botcon 2008.

Other Comic Appearances

Titan UK

Snarl appears in two different Transformers Animated comic strips - the first, in the Transformers Movie comic, has Snarl in a speaking role (!) helping Sari to rescue the Autobots from Starscream and his clone army.

In his second UK comic appearance, in the Transformers Animated Comic, Snarl is infected with a rage (hate plague) virus and runs amok on Dinobot Island, seemingly stealing one of Ratchet's components and with Swoop defeating Grimlock. Snarl is cured when Afterburn deduces that Sari's Allspark Key is capable of curing the rage virus, while Bumblebee recovers the component which turns out to be a thermos of oil.
