Autobot Jazz

Cybertron is cool, but Earth rules.

Autobot Jazz Tech Specs

Tags: Jazz Elite Guard
Faction: Autobots
Function: Elite Ninja
Bio: Autobot Jazz has studied Earth culture since he first became aware of it. He loves everything about it - the music, the movies, the vehicles, and - of course - the style. He's usually a pretty chill guy, being a cyber-ninja and all, but he can barely contain his excitement at finally getting to check out Earth and give his new vehicle mode a spin. His excitement won't make him forget his duty, however. He is a master of hand-to-hand combat, with the fastest fists on Cybertron.

* Master of Circuit-Su even more powerful than Prowl
* Prefers hand-to-hand combat to fighting at a distance
* Member of Cybertron Elite Guard

Autobot Jazz Cartoon / Movie Information

Voice Actor: Phil Lamarr
Cartoon Overview
Jazz is a member of the Elite Guard and former pupil of Master Yoketron, but unlike the businesslike Ultra Magnus and near-xenophobic and overbearing Sentinel Prime, he is in no rush to get the job done and likes to soak up as much culture as he can. He genuinely enjoys contact with new cultures, if his reaction to meeting humans is anything to go by, and he appears to like nothing more than exploring and learning all about new worlds. He's pretty open to new experiences and greatly admires all the quirks of human life, from rain to traffic lights to video games.

As of the end of the three part "Transwarped" season 3 premiere, Jazz along with Sentinel Prime have been assigned to an Elite Guard squad tasked with tracking down the fugitive Wasp. They succeed in tracking Wasp to Earth in "Where is Thy Sting?", where Jazz's different point of view about the Earth is highlighted. While Sentinel hates the Earth, and the rain, Jazz loves it, saying it's like a "planet and a car wash". While he follows Sentinel's orders, he is far more open to working with Optimus' team of Autobots, and also teaches Jetfire & Jetstorm a little about the Earth as it is their first visit.

In "Five Servos of Doom", Jazz and Prowl investigate Sentinel Prime's strange run of luck in capturing Decepticons, after Prowl spots a shadow resembling their old master. Unknown to Jazz, though, their master actually died a long time ago - Prowl never made the knowledge know, presumably. At the end of the battle, when a scoreboard is dropped on the Liar Starscream clone, Lockdown and Samurai Prowl, Jazz is suitably impressed with Prowl's near supernatural ability to survive the impact using Yoketron's "Processor over matter" technique. He leaves Earth again with the rest of the Elite Guard in the following episode, "Predacons Rising".

In battle, Jazz proves to be a true Elite Guard, utilizing incredible ninja skills and training to effortlessly dispatch his opponents. Like Prowl, Jazz is a former pupil of Master Yoketron, but unlike Prowl, Jazz completed his training.

Jazz was next seen in "Decepticon Air", where the captured Decepticons on the Elite Guard ship broke loose and threw the Elite Guard members in their own brig. Jazz played a vital role in keeping Optimus and Sentinel Prime from each other's throats after Optimus rescued Sentinel, and Sentinel started making demands. When the Decepticons found their prisoners had escaped, Optimus told Jazz to reconfigure the decontamination chamber to freeze the Decepticons, while flashing a coded signal from his Autobot logo, telling Jazz to fix it so that it would actually freeze everyone outside the decontamination chamber. After the Decepticons recaptured everyone, Blitzwing threw Optimus and the others into the decontamination chamber, only to find out for himself the real plan.

Jazz proved he was much more level headed than Sentinel Prime once and for all in "This is Why I Hate Machines". After Ratchet and Captain Fanzone, who had accidentally been transwarped to Cybetron, escaped from Elite Guard custody, Sentinel Prime ordered Jazz to track down Ratchet and Captain Fanzone and bring them back, by any means possible and regardless of the number of pieces. Jazz tracked down Ratchet and Fanzone and tailed them for most of the episode, handing Ratchet the access codes for the Autobot Central Infirmary when the ones Ratchet obtained from Rattletrap turned out to be duds instead of arresting him. At the end of the episode, Sentinel Prime was poised to pursue Ratchet to recover the Magnus Hammer, but Jazz told Sentinel Prime to leave it to him. After passing through the Spacebridge to Earth, Jazz instead admitted that he felt Earth was where he needed to be, and that Ratchet was in the right.

On Earth, in "Endgame Part 1", Jazz is seen helping Prowl to complete his Cyber Ninja training, and he is genuinely impressed by Prowl's sheer potential when Prowl demonstrates an ability to pull an Allspark fragment out of the air. Jazz sees what Yoketron saw in Prowl all that time ago in that moment.

During the final battle in Part 2, Jazz and Prowl ineffectually try to slow down the trio of Omega Supreme clones that Megatron unleashed on New Detroit. They work out that only the Allspark will be able to stop the clones, which Starscream boobytrapped to blow up and take out Megatron along with anything else in a 150 mile radius. Prowl and Jazz both use their Processor over Matter technique to gather together Allspark fragments to contain the blast from the final Lugnut Supreme, but it is not enough - so Prowl nobly sacrificed himself to give the Allspark enough power to contain the explosion. Jazz sadly carried Prowl's body back to the other Autobots, and when the Autobots returned to Cybertron, Jazz was one of Prowl's pallbearers.

He apparently puts up with Sentinel Prime by "screening out about half of what he says". His rank within the Elite Guard is unclear, however, he serves as a lieutenant to Sentinel Prime, much as Prowl serves Optimus Prime.

Powers and Abilities

Jazz has extensive training in a wide variety of ninja techniques, including a knowledge of Metallikato. In battle, he wields nunchucks with extreme skill, and he is able to use them to deflect oncoming laser shots, as well as to slice up weaker opponents. He does not have any abilities in his car mode, other than it being "one sweet ride".

Jetfire & Jetstorm Pack-In Comic

When Ultra Magnus' Project: Safeguard was a success and produced a pair of flying Autobots, Jazz was assigned to train both of the new Autobots in servo-to-servo combat (including a few Metalikato and Circuit-Su techniques). However, Jazz's "hip" Earth speech confused Jetfire and Jetstorm. Despite this, the twins by all accounts were smart, strong and resourceful enough to handle most training sessions.

Once Jetfire and Jetstorm completed their Elite Guard training, they were assigned to Jazz and Sentinel Prime, to hunt down the rogue Autobot Waspinator.
