Transformers Generation 1 Commerative Series III Thundercracker (reissue) review

Release Date: 2002
Price: $11.99 I believe

I don?t know what was it about him but this toy really caught my eye. The character in the cartoon was really awesome and the colors stood out to me. He was a loyal soldier and I was very disappointed when he was reformatted into Cyclonus in the movie. There aren?t many versions of this toy out there. Only Armada, G1 and possibly Robot Masters.

ROBOT MODE:

Not much articulation on him. He has two cannons that attach to his arms. He large wings swivel and the smaller wings hook onto his feet. The arms move up and down and that is about it. His cone head can be layed down so he has a more show appearance. He is still can get some good play out of him.

His mold is the same as Starscream, Skywarp and the other jets. The colors are different for each. Thundercracker is blue, red, white, and black. The colors are what distinguish each of them from the others. His stickers can be applied to his feet, wings and other areas on his body. Mine aren?t applied though.

VEHICLE MODE:

Thundercracker is an F-14 fighter jet. His cannons attach onto the bottom of his wings. His hands can attach in a small slot under him. Overall not that difficult to transform into vehicle mode. The parts may get lost at some point if you are not careful though. His wings extend out and stay in firmly as well. Very nicely done on the vehicle modes in the G1 era as well.

WEAPONS:

Thundercracker?s weapons fit onto his arms in vehicle mode. Two sets of missiles come with the toy. One is a long skinny type with an arrow point tip. The other is a more show accurate one. That is all the weapons that come with him.

TRANSFORMATION:

1) Remove wings, wheel, and hands from underbody.
2) Pull feet down.
3) Swivel foot wings around until the wide end is facing the same way his head is.
4) Push arm tabs out from the middle of his body and turn them to the side of his body.
5) Pull nose cone of the head down until it can?t turn any farther and then swing it through the hole in his chest.
6) Pull the head up and push the nose cone down to reveal his head.
7) Attach his hands to the arm tabs, take the guns off the wings and put them in the holes on his arms. Put the wings in the holes at his mid body. Pull the cockpit glass up and place the wheel inside.

FINAL WORD:

This cheaper reissue is the same quality as the original. He is an excellent asset to the G1 universe. The colors may differ in darkness or light. The reissue series is a nice way to allow people to save money. A MISB original Thundercracker will cost a lot more money than the reissue version would. There may be a slight difference but none that are terribly noticable. He is an inexpensive toy from the G1 line.
