Slowly Sorting Things Out - New Customs Area Feedback Thread.

Category: The Radicons Blog | Views: 10,897 | Replies: 97
OK, as of 7:30 PM, we have changed a bunch of things in the new Radicons Section.

Please read this, and reply to this thread, even if you hate everything.

You can now jump right to this page:

http://www.tfw2005.com/radicons-cust...ms-threads-23/

To view ALL customs related threads, in list format, just like old forum structure. The link on homepage of forums goes to that now.

We have changed the overall way you view threads, in any section, back to simple forum style listings.

We have kept the thumbnail preview on these pages though, so that you can see shots of newly updated customs.

Signatures have been fixed, they show in replies now. We are working on, and eventually will, have signatures in your Entries (aka, first post of a thread).

Post New Thread buttons have been added to the top of every category, just like on the forums.

The text size for thread titles have been reduced as to not stretch pages or wrap.

We are attempting to fix the order posts are displayed in. There was a bug in the system that didn't allow for "Sort by Latest Reply First".

We thought we fixed it. We didn't. So we are trying to again.

Right now, threads are sorted by "Submission Time, Newest First", regardless of who replies and when. Eventually, it will be sorted "normal style", just be patient please.

I have also removed the category navigation menu, and the ebay links to customs, on the actual "view thread" pages. That allowed us to make the replies to each thread stretch 100% of the page width.

Quick Reply box turned on.

View new threads like you do for forums, but just for Customs area -
http://www.tfw2005.com/radicons-cust...snew/entries/1

View new posts like you do for forums, but just for Customs area -
http://www.tfw2005.com/radicons-cust...atsnew/posts/1

Please post your comments and crits here, and repost them even if you did elsewhere, so we have a new, unified, "Needs to be Addressed" thread to look at.

Thanks for being patient everyone, we'll do our best to make everyone happy.

Later!

well for my part i like the older structure better.... more well structured... now it,s mayhem... you should really have more sub sections that will make people find what they want faster... but the thumb pictures on the left is a nice add-on .. as for the rest the look is great but as i said the forum structure needs to be refined....much like how it was before

keep it up !!

I'll copy this directly from the other thread, as I feel I worded it pretty well there, but I will modify it to address what has already been fixed (mad props for listening to the public's opinion. It's much appreciated)

EDIT: After seeing how much was covered, I'll just add this:
I'd really like it if the Radicon's Mods were clearly marked. The Content Guy tags the two of them (Andy doesn't count, as his Super Mod status marks him as staff) don't really feel like enough to make them stand out, IMO. Just a thought.

I don't quite understand, you want it like it was in the forums, before the relaunch? Or you want it how it was "blog style", earlier today?

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is moving the thread starter's info over to the left. I was reading some threads and wondering who the hell posted it because, out of habit, I looked on the left. It's just a minor thing... I don't need to know who posted, but I'm almost sure I'm not the only one that would prefer the thread starter's info on the left.

And once again, I really like how you're taking your time to listen to everyone's input. It shows how much you're willing to go above and beyond to make people happy here.

search function seems to be not working properly...like it doesn't show ever thread past page 1... and you should have left it like it was before( ie:show newest posts first and and older on the other pages).

also, when search works, ever posts in the thread appears twice...

anyway, you changed some things on the boards since this morning and i'm sure most of us are happy about it!

keep up the good work guys!!

Having the default sort order to newest post would be nice (kinda like it was before the major change). Also, I had to use the search function to find my Classics Overlord WIP thread (it wasn't in the All Customs Threads section for some reason). Also, I can't seem to reply in either one of my WIP threads (the one's for Thundercracker and Overlord). I get a message saying "Sorry! This forum is not accepting new posts." whenever I try to post in either one of them. Other than that, nothing I can see that's not working correctly. It'll take me a bit to get used to the new layout, but, that's normal or any sort of change.

Edit: I can now post in my Thundercracker thread, but the Overlord thread still doesn't show up for some reason when I put the sorting order to newest post, and I still can't post in it (I'm not complaining, but, just pointing out things that catch my eye ).

I'm definitely liking having all the customs being on one page. The preview thumnails are GREAT. A great improvement over yesterday, and overall a great improvement over the previous layouts.

It would be nice if it auto-sorted by last post, though. I understand why they would be sorted by the date they were added, but I prefer by last post.

The single most important decision of the entire Transformers movie:Will there, or will there not, be an extra on the DVD featuring the Autobots dancing to Michael Jackson's Thriller? It would be like getting hit by an atomic bomb of awesome, and you know it. Copy this into your signature right now! MISSION FAILED

When looking at the listings on the main page, the titles are often very turnicated, so you can't tell what the thread is about, they all end up looking like "My great New Alter..."

Sure, it's also 90% us doing long rambly titles, but that's an internet tradition

I miss the old Toy Ark free for all. However, glad to the new TF Toy discussion area.

I'm down with everything Soundblaster1 just said.

The right side thread-starter thing just seems like a completely arbitrary virtuoso web-design conceit ("let's be different from everywhere else, just because!")... the natural, intuitive configuration is on the left.

I'm really happy to see the newest changes... entering the forum the way it was before made my head hurt. Have a listing for All Customs is much better than all the sub-categories.

I can see why in some cases it's good to divide some of the different kinds of posts into their own areas, but over-classification can just lead to fragmentation and confusion. I don't need to have heavy scratch builds separated from minor mods and repaints. It's much easier to sift through the posts that interest me by having an all-inclusive list (with the newest threads highlighted).

Good job on being so diligent, folks! Thanks!

I like the new look, but the Kitbash/Custom section is like finding a needle in a haystack, but I liked the old format, but redesign it to fit the members needs then I'm happy as a clam. But even though I don't like change I always find a way to adapt. Thats just me. Anyways thats all I have to say and thanks.

I really like what you guys are trying to do here. Change is good & I'm trying to have an open mind about it, but I'm getting very confused. I liked the idea of have a Minor mods/repaints & Heavy mods sections. It's seems as if new post are not being moved up in the listings, I bumped one of my own threads because I updated it to meet new board format for pics and I found it on page 4.

Long & the short of it.
I like the new upload system for pics & the thumbnails (I think it will bring more attention to threads others my just pass by.)& the fact we have our own little sub-site
The Featured Project & Featured Radicon is an Awesome idea

I dislike, due to confusion all the sub-forums.

I think keeping it more or less like the main TFW forum page would work much better (IMO).

Thanks for giving us a place to voice our concerns.
All the staff here does one hell of a job, Making this the Only Transformers site I visit,............... well aside from Cybertron.ca

Edit
Also the Ignore feature does not seem to work in here at the moment.

I like it the way it is now a lot, it's a huge improvement over the original forum. The only problem seems to be the search function, though I guess it's just a matter of time before it's fixed.
