Why did I know My listener question was going to be in this one.

    [IMG][IMG]

MyLittlePonyNews.com Year of the Horse Pinkie Pie

Also Year of the Horse Optimus seems to be Homageing a rare Japan repaint of Convoy, with the black of the hips for his "tires", both have a ton of gold where silver should be. (except the tires?) No Idea why for the ghost trailer, but the core robot is homageing something

I don't know if he did it anywhere else, but Hydra knows the guy making the Kre-O comics and he recently took some character requests at the Allspark.

Some of them show up in the one you talk about here, but not all of the western stuff is from those. Guys like Thrustinator(Who has been a regular in these) and Rung are all on whoever is making these.

edit: I love Mandarake's priorities when it comes to discounting stuff. If only so I can get stuff for cheaper because of "damage" that I don't care about.

I think the color on MP Prime (or the gold at least) is supposed to make it look like the packaging, which seems to be the "official" colors of The Year of The Horse (Gold/Red).

No offence, but I absolutely have to correct you or I'll never sleep at night (because I'm THAT guy): it's "homage" or "homaging". The "h" is technically meant to be silent (depending on how you decide to pronounce it). Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.
BUT other than that, you make a good point. I remember seeing that Convoy repaint a while back and thinking nothing of it, so kudos for reminding us where this new MP repaint fits in.

I personally think the Year of the Horse MP Prime looks classy with all the gold, but other than that, I think it's a completely pointless repaint. That being said, I still don't have MP-10, and I really want it. Just not enough to buy a completely inaccurate version that will surely be overpriced, much like the Asia reissue.

I'm getting YOTH Prime because I like the mold and I like this deco. Doesn't have to homage anything for me (though the resemblance to both Convoy Gold Version and a KO sweetens the pot), I just like that it looks good. Transformers don't get original redeco ideas with no homage very often and I really enjoy this one, especially looking him in the face. The black around the eyes really works.

I wonder if the trailer might be an option to attach to your MP-10B? If you can ignore or cover the autobrands (horse branding pun intended)

I keep talking about the Kre-O comic guy like his identity is some sort of mystery, but we do know who it is.
Hayato Sakamoto, a guy who apparently has made Transformers doujinshi(not that kind) in the past.

The thing about Sentai Robo simplicity compared to transformers and what irks me when people cry out for more intricacy is:

    1) It's for a younger kid demographic than Transformers, hence the joints they do have are usually a bigger, beefier, harder-to-break kind, so that young kids don't break their toys. (While safety laws are more lax, kids with broken toys are still bad for business)
And 2) Sentai robos are mainly gimmick toys, where the draw and the entire play pattern is the combination and often now the additional gimmick such as light and sounds when you stick in a thing.

I think you guys do well keeping in mind the for-kids thing when discussing retail Transformers but for reasons beyond me you seem to forget this is also the most important factor when it's about other retail kids toylines, albiet foreign ones. Sentai, like Transformers, has nods and winks to the older collectors, however it's not completely an older-collector oriented toyline either, and even has an even younger demographic as its main one. It's speculated even that part of why the Go-Busters line didn't do well is the complexity of the mecha, though that may be just pure speculation, I don't know, there isn't and probably never will be official word on the matter.

I don't think Sentai hasn't stagnated, it's just remained with its original and largest demographic.

Precisely what I think. As long as the kids toy sales are skyrocketing (And Gaim's apparently on track to be the highest selling Kamen Rider toyline ever) that's all that really matters for Toei. Adult collectors be damned, without the child demographic, everything would just fall apart. Look at G.I. Joe. It hasn't focused on kids for years, and unless something drastic is done I'm pretty sure that line isn't going to have a resurgence any time soon.

Personally, I wish all his blue was replaced by black, so he'd look a lot like the Elite Guard Optimus Prime redeco of Animated Prime.

I don't feel I am forgetting the child demographic when I'm talking about them Megazords. I find it genuinely disappointing that joints found on Daibouken or Gobuster Ace, for instance, are so rare to this day. Like, a big chunky universal hip ratchet.

I'm sorry, perhaps I overspoke when saying that, but I do think it was a bit unfair to say that Bandai are behind engineering-wise just because they've chosen to keep things simple (on the outside, some gimmicks being pretty engineered) for the kids. I get the want for an elbow or a knee, I sympathize even, I wouldn't complain if Ace was the norm. You're not wrong for liking well articulated toys, nor for lack of articulation dis-interesting you, I just think the want is just a bit out of place in a line with the aim of being gimmick toys for toddlers.

Aaron decided not to talk about Lego because he'd have to mention "The Podcast's Biggest Fan" again.

I frequently forget that stuff now because I don't have it in the room with me. I usually remember it right after we've stopped recording and it's 1 in the morning.

I missed out on the US release of Prime and I was hoping to get this one but after seeing it I'll just take my loss. In my opinion this thing looks horrible. That gold just looks hideous on Prime. I just wanted to the bot. I couldn't care less for the trailer, but now I'll just take it as a loss.

YotH Prime has me drawn to it for the darker colors, which would look good with G2 MP.Sideswipe, at least to me.

All this talk of dispatching someone with a rapier reminded me of this little known classic that everyone should watch.

    Ring of Steel

Ring of Steel (1994) - IMDb

It's a bout a world champion fencer who gets pulled into and underground sword fight club. It's really as awesome as it sounds.
