Yes he handled it wrong but corporate wants X number of copies on a shelf some times thus extra copies have to be removed of anything valuable. Then corporate says something else and those extra copies get put back in the drawer. It's plausible that's what he was trying to give. But yeah he should have been polite and looked for a sealed copy. If they didn't have any he should have explained.

Yay GameStop corporate. They're the reason I've boycott the chain.

This is honestly my favorite part of this episode.

 

Yeah. The very first comics in the IDW universe are worth reading in my book, just that the post-Death of Optimus Prime stuff is better and you should really start with those are the quality is just better.

The early Simon Furman "-ation" and spotlight series are a little hit or miss, but he does have some really clever ideas here and there among some that were bad. (Spotlight Arcee and Headmaster Sunstreaker are pretty goddamn horrible, as well as its abrupt ending, but the idea of holomatter, Decepticon infiltration phases and a transhuman planet are neat.) If you run out of MTMTE and RiD issues to read, I'd say you should try going back to these as they build a lot of history to the IDW universe.

The IDW comics have had a few different eras\runs so far:
1) The original Simon Furman -ation and spotlight series. These are okay, pretty hit or miss.
2) All Hail Megatron. Very mixed reactions, with most being negative.
3) The Mike Costa era (the original ongoing, Heart of Darkness, Chaos). This is the dark age of the book that Vangelus is referring to. Avoid these unless you wanna be a trooper and soldier through the whole thing.
4) The Death of Optimus Prime, MTMTE, RiD - the current phase of the comic. This is the good stuff.

Basically, read the current era of comics, then go back to the beginning, and then if you can't make it through All Hail Megatron or the Mike Costa ongoing, don't feel bad.

1. I think it was Twilight fanfic (or it might have actually been from Twilight) with Vangelus subbing in Transformers characters' names.

Oh I agree that the employee should not have reacted the way he did and I don't blame you for preferring a sealed copy. I guess I've just been on the other side of that transaction to many times to not feel some sympathy for the guy as well.

As for the DS, ask the Nintendo rep that handles the systems. GameStop doesn't actually do anything for the displays. Or at least they didn't when and where I worked.

 

When the 3DS first hit, I actually setup Miis and street passes on a Best Buy and Gamestop demo units, but a few months later it seemed like the units had been updated and that you couldn't get into that functionality. So, blame Nintendo. Oddly enough, the units at the TRUs I visit seem to streetpass, so <shrug>.
