If I remember correctly I think there's even a Mosaic out there that has Octopunch gaining his Pretender look after an encounter with Cthulu in some alien ocean.

EDIT: Here it is. It's actually his pretender form actually being a reincarnated Cthulu.

    Re BOTCON registration:

I registered about an hour and a half after they opened the gates and despite a slow initial loading of the page the rest seemed to flow rather easily. As much as I want to attend I cannot this year but I have to have that Stunticon set so I got the Iacon set and in hindsight I'm glad I did as it appears to have sold out in record time.

Sorry to hear about the bad experiences you've had. I certainly can understand the frustration.

Wow, the podcast was definitely Transformer-y, well the WWGTW section. But man the Botcon registration sounds bad if you know how is goes and the question from Turnip about the horror of mail orders..geez lucky I never seen anything like that. So thanks guys for the podcast and hopefully no one gets "Lupis".

On the topic of that set, Vangelus mentioned how cheap the set had become and how it seemed like such a shame to him.

The set that TJ picked up for less than a Hamilton is a second run of the series done by Mill Creek Entertainment. They picked up the rights for the discs from BCI Eclipse when the latter went under and sold various assets etc. It's the BCI Eclipse version of the Ultraman series that was super-awesome, included a booklet on all the Ultra Kaiju, had the interviews, the whole enchilada. The Mill Creek version is condensed into fewer discs and lacks all the non-video bonuses and snazzy packaging. I own the original BCI releases, split into two volumes, and I paid a bit more, but I'm still somewhat pleased with it. I'd be far more impressed if the Chaiyo/Tsuburaya issues hadn't gotten in the way and we could get a really good Ultraman release, but that's a story for another time.

After Ultraman first came out on DVD, BCI put out some other vastly underrated and lesser-known toku sets as well, which I'd venture to say fared even better than Ultraman did, seeing as they didn't share Ultraman's licensing clusterfuck: Red Baron and Iron King. (There was going to be a third one, but I totally forget which series and it got canceled because of BCI going down.) I'd say that even more than Ultraman, if anybody wants to track them down, as they're more unknown, the Mill Creek versions are safer buys, but if you're into older toku, definitely pay the extra to track down the BCI Eclipse versions instead.

Anybody jealous of TJ's score can pick up the Mill Creek Ultraman set for $6.49 on Amazon.

I agree. He'd be fantastic if he were released in Universe. But he's a meh Generations toy at best.

Yeah. I'm not even making fun of anyone. I just think people love him so much because he's, well, JAZZ. And it certainly raises my opinion of him for sure. I think the mold does what it needs to, but it's not particularly special.

I like him because of that simplicity and his chunkiness. My favorite toy from this "toy season"? Hell no. But he's still a blast. Toy/mold for me for this era so far is either Straxus or Breacher.

It was mentioned that hyperthreading on an old alienwear was under utilizing the power of the proccessor as seen in the low activity on a reported core in task manager. That is not how hyperthreading works. Hypertreading basically sets up two different possible cues of instructions for the processor to follow. It will chug along loading the predicted next instructions to use until a mistake in that prediction is encountered. At that point the memory manager needs to go get the actual instructions instead of the predicted ones and the second cue of instructions is worked on in the mean time.

This shows up as one virtual core not being used but really it is. Google “branch prediction” for more detail.

I agree about the $6 online fee. Why wouldn't they just automatically incorporate it into the cost?

    My BotCon Registration Story
So I was sitting there on the computer with 3 browser windows open. The BotCon website, BotCon's Twitter, and my e-mail. Refreshing each about every 5 minutes by the time registration went up. And about an hour before registration went up, my friend came to the door and was like, "Hey, let's go to the mall and stuff". And so I was explaining to him the whole BotCon registration thing and agreed that if they don't put registration in an hour or so, I'll go out with him. So we played video games for about an hour, all the time I would lean over and click the refresh button inbetween bits.

Finally an hour passes, and I was like "sigh. I guess they're not putting it up today." So we get ready to go. Turn off the game system. And I was about to turn off the computer, when I thought to myself I better check again before I shut down. "DING!"  I jumped off the couch and started hovering in the air. Registration is UP! And my friend was like :inquisiti . So I rushed through the registration and I managed to get into the Thursday customizing class.  But just logging in felt like it took forever. I think it took me maybe 5 minutes real time to just go from Username and Password to Welcome to BotCon Registration. But it felt like 10 or 20 minutes. Cursing my shitty internet connection the whole time.

So after about a half an hour of talking about what just happened, I was checking on the boards and saw people complaining about the price of the HoF event. And I though to myself, "uh? I don't remember seeing that during the registration." So I went back, saw that it was there, and added it on without thinking a second thought. And it was also about this time I got my confirmation email for the previous order, Primus Package, Customizing Class, T-shirt, etc.

Finally my friend and I went out and we were gone for a good 2 or 3 hours at least. I get back home and I hope on the boards again and I start reading about the additional $6 service charge, and I see I'm panicking because I haven't received a confirmation on my HoF order. And I'm checking my credit card online and I was charged, but I still haven't received the confirmation. So I'm thinking not only am I out a bullshit $6 service fee for adding something that should have been there in the first place, but I might be out of that $45 for the HoF itself. "Is it sold out already?" "Did I get screwed out of $51?" Eventually I got the confirmation and everything's all good. But that $6 is bullshit. I know it's only $6, but I think there should be some kind of refund, even if it's just a club store credit or "hey, here's a free toque".

And just to top everything off, regarding what Buzzbeak was saying in the last podcast, I had almost the exact opposite problem as him last year. I was trying to sign up my friend for the club and rather than creating a new account for them, some how I changed my account info to theirs. And had to go through like a months worth of emailing back and forth to try and get everything sorted.

Just starting listening to this ep and just had to put in my 2¢. The idea you mentioned about incorporating the $6 online fee into the package and stating a $19 paper fee would end up costing us more. It would work fine if you're registering just yourself and only buying one Primus package. Those of us buying two and registering our kid would end up paying $18 in incorporated fees instead of only $6. That's why they don't do it and I hope they leave it as is.

You know what that's a good point, but you have to admit that they way that they've flopped from having no fee for paper reg then 25 bucks makes that whole part of the process look like they're trying to skim more money out of us.

I think that ultimately what my week later opinion of all of this is that I think that Fun Pub could go a long way towards improving the way their business is perceived by being a bit more transparent. Things like, let us know why when last year it was free to fax it in, but this year it costs 25 dollars. Tell us honestly what their "record numbers" are before the show. You're already sold out, you aren't going to lose or gain people at this point.

Yeah, I do agree that it seems like a money grab to charge for the paper fax. The only thing I can come up with is that they are trying to discourage the paper registration all together. You gotta admit, very few people ( if any ) would bother with the paper and fax machine if they can save $19 by doing it online.
