I was really sad to see the WiiWare cancellation but I dig why it happened. :(

Heh! thats gamestop, "bait and switch" or "bait and don't have"

I got three things for xmas. TF WFC for Xbox, a crossbow, and RED_RING_OF_DEATH!! I got screwed by gamestop on trading a 120gb xbox with not even 24hrs of f--kng use, and a mess of gear for a little over $40. Funny thing about it i'm left being furiously pissed at xbox and gamestop, and the one gift i still have is a projectile weapon.

First up, great timing with he Network clip. I just started re-watching Studio 60 and the first episode is a huge Network homage.

About the length- I'm sorry but this one was just way too long. I listen at work too, but I also listen to other shows. I know there's chapter skips and all that but when it gets this long it starts to feel unfocused. Honestly I would have chopped out all off topic stuff from what we got since that segment was longer than many entire podcasts. Off topic stuff is cool when there's slow weeks or something but when there's tons of on topic holiday halls it becomes expendable.

Not trying to hate as I still love the show, it just really strains the attention span after about 2 hours.

I know I do this every few months, but let me clarify my hosting and editing approach in regards to episode 128:

If this was a year or two ago I would have cut up WWGTW in this episode. However, given previous reactions to limitations I've tried putting on that segment and the unfortunate fact that doing all those edits properly and to a standard I'd be satisfied with if I began the process would have easily added around 2 hours to the editing time of the episode, coupled with the fact that IMO this is to be expected in the post-xmas block and therefore puts this episode into a timeslot of extenuating WWGTW circumstances, I decided against it. I have other projects going on (as well as a desire to actually still have spare time :lol  ) and if exponentially raising the workload for one episode of a weekly podcast feels like it'll only do something for a handful of the listenership, it generally will only happen if it's something that really bugs me personally to be left untouched.

To me, leaving it generally uncut with one-touch track markings on either end is far better than a rushed or sloppy cutting job done only for length's sake. That's why I usually avoid passing the editing work to other people for the weekly episodes- I'd only end up spending even more time reviewing the majority of what was given back to me to make sure edits sound decent.

I entirely dig why someone listening to the show in one go would not be into this, but all I can say is I still feel I've provided the tools to pop in and out or listen to a bit now and a bit later between other audio material, and doing that is overall the better combination of efficiency for my end of things while accomodating the majority number of vocal listener wishes that one can hope to at once. Whenever I restate my point about chapter markings and a timeline, I do not do it in order to handwave constructive criticisms away, I do it to explain why I do not act on that particular talking point.

This post is not meant to "shut down" or belittle anyone (and I'm not mad at anybody!), just explaining some of the details and processes from my end of things in regards to this particular episode. :D  My hope is that providing a response like this validates constructive feedback and dialogue.

I say keep on trucking! A 4 hour podcast makes an 8-hour day go by 4 hours faster!

And the people who poopoo on OT WWGTW should let the OT stuff broaden your horizons! So much cool stuff that's not Transformers out there :D

I might actually skip the wwgtw segment to avoid the extra length and envy - I managed to score 0 (zero) transformers over the Christmas period...hoping to fix that when Jazz and Tracks finally come out somwhere in Ottawa.

Apparently others are having trouble downloading this one...

I can see episode 128 on my home PC using iTunes, but I'm not there to sync my iPod. When I use the iTunes app on the iPod I see every episode up through the 1/6 supplemental. However, I see a review from Jan 10 in the reviews section, as well as other updated podcasts I listen to available for download.

    Any ideas....??? Thanks. :rolleyes2

My iTunes automatically downloaded this when it came up, so no idea what the problem is for anyone else. :X

Also, another record-setting (for WTF@TFW) podcast in terms of length. I'm still waiting for a 24 Hours of WTF@TFW special.

Count me in long podcasts! I just don't understand you complainers.... Vangelus takes the time to put in chapterbreaks and give us a time-indexed list of them, WHO ELSE DOES THAT?!?!?!

Solely in the spirit of constructive criticism, let me refine my thoughts a bit. A degree of brevity can come during the recording rather than as an edit. I listen to a bunch of shows from places like TwiT, CNet, and VTW Productions, all of which are broadcast live and fixed start and end times (or close to fixed). I think that structure can force a trimming of the fat by trying to keep momentum going and not lingering on a topic once someone has nailed the key points as often happens on WTF.

Something else that may be worth considering is the discussion structure. Currently for a topic it tends to seem like sequential conversations between Vangelus and one co-host at a time. It feels a bit more like the message boards in a way, post by post topic rather than a round table discussion. I recognize that's a great way to give all the co-hosts a turn to get their thoughts out, but I also don't think a more inclusive group discussion would prevent that.

I'm thinking specifically of TWiT's show Tech News Today where there's 3-4 hosts and they cover 10 or so news stories plus listener mail in roughly 45 minutes. Granted they don't go as in depth on every topic and the mail is way less thought-baiting, but that's my other point of reference. (Also no, I'm not suggesting you aim for a 45 minute show. 90-120 min I think would be a good mark.)

I'm not against hearing about OT stuff, in fact I find it pretty interesting most of the time. Hell, before the 07 movie came out the old Toyark section of the board was very influential in me buying a lot of non-TF stuff. I just think that when there's so much on-topic stuff, the OT stuff can take the week off. :)
