Beast wars Megatron was a good character. But... That voice does not fit the character. He's Got a horrible voice, it sounds so "un-evil". I could handle it if that voice didn't belong to That Megatron. I don't mean that David Kaye is a bad voice actor(he's great) but there's just something about that Megatron.
Animated was Megatron and he actually sounded like a Megatron, that's why I love that character.

I had to let that out, I apologize.
If it helps, I like the whole"You no longer exist!!!" thing at the end of the Agenda but still, imagine animated Megatron doing the Megatron speech bits toward the end.

It wasn't SUPPOSED to be Megatron. It's a different character. (Aside from that one comic before the show was made that was with the Bat Optimus and Gator Megs.

 

BW Megatron. Perfect. Honestly, Animated Megatron does not even come close.

 

I may be a bit biased though on BW Megs. He was my first Badguy Transformer as a kid (T-Rex one.) Got him with Rattrap for a birthday or something.

 

Beast Wars Megatron WAS a better, more successful, Megatron. But, to me, Animated Megatron "feels" better.

Animated Megatron's voice is the only thing that makes him better for me(Man, Dat Voice!!!).

Then again, it's probably just me.

I think we as a franchise are truly lucky to have two Megatrons that are so excellent in different ways. I mean, think about it. You have a Megatron whose smart, devious, well spoken with a penchant for treachery. On the other hand you have a Megatron whose smart, devious, well spoken with a penchant for violence. Both personify the best parts of a villainous mastermind.

I think it's really interesting that from a toy and design standpoint we have very definitive look for Optimus Prime. Red, blue, distinctive head with faceplate, and a truck. Yet, as far as character goes, it's hard to pinpoint a definitive Prime without just saying G1. We've had some great Primes (primal) but each one is fairly different and I don't think any one has an edge over the other.

And yet, when it comes to Megatron, from a design and toy standpoint we don't have quite the definitive look. Big gun yes, but that's really the only thing that remains a tried and true constant and even then it's not always there (cybertron). Yet, character wise, we have two excellent examples that personify everything we want and love in the character.

 

Toy-wize, I consider Cybertron Optimus Prime to be my definitive Prime. Sadly, despite having a few Megatron toys, there are none that I can say are definitely THE Megatron for me. :<

 

Character wise I'll go with BW Megs. He's just so bad ass in so many levels. David Kaye nailed it. I hope to one day we get a Megatron as great as this. I can't compare him to Animated since I never bothered to watch it. Every time I tuned in it was something too goofy going on. But I do want to be educated so are there boxed sets for this series? I'm interested in seeing it in big chunks. Who knows, maybe Animated Megatron will surprise me.

Toywise... Besides BW all Megatrons are meh....

hmmm..i have every megatron toy, from G1 to current(WFC megs), on a big dresser.... looking at them now,all together in a group, i have to say the one that sticks out as bad ass is RID ... i never saw an episode, but as far as the toy goes he is the scariest, meanest, and bad assed looking one. least favorite megatron out of all of them, alternity megatron... just my opinion, but ugh.... doesn't even belong on the dresser with the rest.

They should just release three different Classics lines at the same time, each with near impossible first letters to use. Q, X, and Z.
