Quote:
At Square Enix's press conference at E3 in Los Angeles, the company officially announced Final Fantasy XIII for the PlayStation 3. Square Enix then proceeded to show a trailer from the game, in which a female protagonist is seen flying around a city. Video shown in the trailer was entirely realtime except for a short sequence of rendered footage showing a train -- our "Away Team" who saw the trailer said it looked "incredible", and will be reporting back further details after the SCE conference today at 4PM PST.

The game is being created by the same team behind Final Fantasy X. The game runs on the "White Engine", an all-new exclusive next-gen engine built for Square Enix's future games. It was originally planned for the PlayStation 2 but was later moved to the PS3. This game is part of the three-part saga, Fabula Nova Crystallis FF XIII, which also includes a cellphone prequel RPG and another PS3 title called FF Versus XIII, an action game by the makers of Kingdom Hearts.

We'll have more details on this shortly.

Square Enix had only just officially announced Final Fantasy XIII at its E3 2006 press conference, but that didn't stop the company from announcing its sequel. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being created by the team behind Kingdom Hearts 2 and will be an "extreme action game" that serves as the direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII and will appear on the PS3. The trailer for the game was done by the team that put together Advent Children.

We'll have more info on this very curious game shortly.

It's ok, you've played this at least 10 times before, you aren't missing anything. At all.

Erm, Twin Twist?

Where have you played this before? The entire battle system's being revamped, and hyped as an "action-based battle system". From that screenshot, I'm seeing free-roaming pseudo-realtime, with the ability to perform multiple attacks per "turn", all in a drop-dead gorgeous package.

Not impressed. I really think it is sad that final fantasy is going away from the traditional turn based game style. Oh well. Can't make everyone happy I guess.

So it's like Diablo, except prettier. And without a mouse.

Whatever. KH I was a train wreck ... so much so that I've skipped the sequel.

Of all action RPG's, why Diablo? If anything, with that timer system, it'd probably be closer to Guild Wars. Which, judging by the video, is so far off base that you're not even in the same ballpark..

And I think most people would disagree with KH1's "trainwreck" status...
