    Steam? Origin? Uplay? Everything else?
Yup, post/talk about it all here, including deals, sales, etc.

Build specs, pics of your machine, build questions, advice and tips? All welcome too.

See quite a few PC gamers here but nothing to house it all. Thought this would be a good idea considering how PC is a very competitive choice going into next gen.

    Have fun!

    Fellow PC gamer reporting in.

Currently I'm trucking on losing weight.
Still have quite the way to go, but the goal is to reward myself with a new gaming rig once I've reached my desired weight.
Sadly my old rig have decided to fail on me recently, perfect timing.

    My current rig:
    Asus Radeon 5770HD 1GB GPU
    Intel Core i5-750 2.6GHZ Quad-Core
    Asus P7H55-M/PRO motherboard
    8GB DDR3 Kingston Ram
    GlacialTech S1156 CPU cooler
    Corsair 500W PSU

So as you can probably see it's quite outdated, but it does the job for most console port games and most of Valve's games.
The power-supply is brand new as my old Antec 380w had to be replaced.

Trying to keep it going until I've lost the weight I need, which will also give me the time to save up.

If I could upgrade right now I would probably build a rig with a GTX 760 4GB GPU and a i7-4770k in it.
Not sure about the motherboard, but I'd like to keep everything future proof so I can just stick a better GPU in it without investing in other parts.

I play a lot of older games these days such as Painkiller, which will run on a toaster, but my current rig doesn't allow me to run most modern PC games that well. I would love to play the new Shadow Warrior for example.

I mainly use Steam to play PC games. I've got an ASUS G74S gaming laptop with the following:

    -Intel Core i7 2630QM, 2.0 GHz
    -12GB DDR3 RAM
    -640GB 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
    -17.3" Full HD Screen
    -NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 3GB
    -DirectX 11
    -Backlit Keyboard
-Easy access cover on the underside for upgrading
    -Windows 7 64-Bit

THAT, my friends, is a gaming computer. :D  However, I am worried that with new games coming out for the next generation, I feel the need to upgrade my laptop. Any suggestions?

Gaming laptops is always a bit pricy.
At least if you want good performance.

Pretty sure ASUS is still a great choice.

If upgrading the parts in your laptop is easy enough you should probably consider a GPU from Nvidia's 700 series and a better processor. Think you'll be good to go for upcoming games then!

    Close to what I just got. i7-4770k, msi gtx 770 (2gb), 16gb ram, 2tb hdd, 250gb ssd.

Extremely happy with it so far. Last rig was from 2007 and still running an 8800gt. Man I still love that card, what a workhorse.

Heard many great things about the performance of the 8800gt!

What sort of framerates are you getting with your current setup is modern games?
If you could name a few examples.
Metro Last Light, Witcher 2, Planetside 2, Hitman Absolution etc?

I was kinda wondering myself. Is there an easy way to check or do I have to get like fraps or something? Do some games have ways to check while you're in them?

Don't have any of those games you listed though. I bargain game on PC, playing through bioshock infinite right now that was $10.50 :lol

Hehe you can do a benchmark via Fraps while you're playing.
Pretty sure Bioshock Infinite is no match for that setup, unless you go above 1080p resolution.

What do you tend to play? :)

I'm stuck with a 2007 C2Q box at the moment, been wanting to replace it for a couple of years but IRL has gotten in the way of finding a spare grand to spend and its not pissing me off excessively because its still good for everything other then games.

Funnily enough that had a 8800GT, but it burned out a couple of years ago after years of punishment. Brought a shitty cheap 440 to tide me over for a few months until I built a new machine, but that didn't happen and it's still in there.

Having said all that thought, seeing the bonkers specs for Watchdogs sort of made me happy that I have waited.

Yeah it blazes through infinite with no hangups. Kinda why I'm enjoying it so much lol.

Shooters are fun but I play quite a variety. One of the nice things about my cpu + gpu combo is it came with FFXIV:ARR, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Batman Arkham Origins and Assassins Creed 4. Only thing you won't see me playing is RTS, never got into that genre.

Speaking of strategy, am I the only one who thinks Steam should add Starcraft? That's probably the only RTS game I ever liked.

I mostly play shooters from "the old school".

The original Painkiller is just my kind of game.
The Hell & Damnation "remake" isn't half bad either.
The rest of the PK series.. let's not mention them :D
Liking Team Fortress 2 and some of Valve's other shooters too.

Things such as Battlefield and CoD is not my cup of tea at all..

And then there's Metro Last Light and the new Shadow Warrior.. gosh I would love to play those.
Pretty sure they would fry my old rig :(

And yes McBradders. Dota 2! Dota 2! Dota 2!

I actually like dota 2. Well, liked what I played of it. A lot more focus on team mechanics there.

My buds were always trying to rush me into pvp though and I wanted to learn the basics vs bots first instead of getting mopped. It's just coming from the realm of fighting games where I like to get comfortable wasting hours upon hours in practice mode and coming up with an actual strategy before facing off against live opponents.

I guess I like to understand why I'm losing and how to correct it and play better. You can't do that if you don't understand fundamentals first.

Just a question regarding a game that I want on my Steam wishlist. Should I get GTA IV for PC, or would it be better if I just got it for my PS3 instead?

I actually don't game all that much on my PC. Still playing WoW occasionally, Simcity(5? 2013?) occasionally, and D3 even less than occasionally.

I generally build my computers on a VERY tight budget. My current rig:

    MoBo: Gigabyte MA785GMT
    Proc: Athlon II X4 620
    RAM: 8GB DDR3
    Vid: Sapphire Radeon 6850HD
    Monitors: 24" 1080p Viewsonic, 20" 4:3 HP POS

No SSD yet. Still hard to justify the cost of them IMO.

Skip it all together and get GTA V.

Really, though, I'd say PC for that one just because of the mods. Check out the Iron Man mod some day. It makes me want to buy a PC copy.

Fair points, but the Bots are a terrible experience. Best way to learn is to get stomped, unfortunately. Best learning experience is to play a match or two with your buddies who will take you into quite high level matches, no doubt, then once you have a hang of the basics, go against dudes in matchmaking on your own as they should be around your level of experience. Unless they're smurfing :(

Generally bots are either too easy and you learn nothing or make an unstoppable gankball where you also learn nothing but feel all the worse for it.

Ah that sucks. Maybe I'll give it another go if they're still wanting to play.

Also I'm sure most of you check already, but latest humblebundle had stuff added to it and it's pretty insane. Less then a $5 donation nets you:

    Batman Arkham Asylum
    Batman Arkham City
[DLC] Batman Arkham Origins Skins Pack
    Fear
    Fear 2
    Fear 3
    LOTR: War in the north
    Scribblenauts: Unlimited
    MK Kollection Online

And a few other game DLC packs.
Can't beat that shit for $5 bucks.
