While I think MS withdrew the DRM restrictions to appease gamers, I think they still want the X1 to appeal to a broader audience. I've talked to several people that aren't really gamers who were generally excited about the Kinect features, and I think to have that still work properly they want it connected the whole time.

Anyways, X1 is on my "to get eventually" list. Let them get some good exclusives first.

I'm glad we finally have a civilized and moderated thread for the Xbox One, the last one had way too many flamers and haters in it for any real discussions to take place. I've been excited about this since the day they announced it. If I could afford it I'd preorder it right now, but at the moment I'm unemployed so I'll have to wait. Soon as I find another job and get some money put away, I'm definitely going to preorder this beast.

I don't know much about the modern consoles. Last 2 consoles I've owned are Playstation and Wii, if that tells you how far behind I am. I'm looking at Xbox one or the new playstation, but what's killing me are the exclusive games. So many potentially awesome looking games, but only on Xbox or Playstation. However, one game that's attracting me to Xbox more is Killer Instinct. I was hooked on it in the arcades back in the day. I still have my copy for the SNES. LOL.

I'm curious though, as far as the Kinect goes, how reliable was it on Xbox 360? All I have to compare it to is the Nintendo Wii's motion sensor (whatever its called) and it was occasionally hit or miss. Overall though, it was good. So How reliable and efficient is the new Kinect for Xbox one going to be?

Rereading this I do have one question. Obviously I don't take any part of this console wars, I feel each has their positive and their negative, I'm not partial either way about any consoles. So I ask this out of ignorance, what the hell is M$?

I'm floored that there are people that want the DRM reinstated.

I do. I wanted to watch the beginning of a fundamental change in gaming and watch GameStop get crushed as a bonus.

The Kinect for Windows can be closer than the 360 one, and reports I've seen have the One's Kinect being able to work even closer than that.

I've not had problems with my Kinect doing the same thing. I think that the problems could be due to not properly calibrating it and the sensor not being able to tune out the room.

I was apparently one of the few that could play Steel Battalion with the Kinect without any crippling issues. It's worked pretty well in the games I've played, so if they've beefed up the hardware and added an on-board processor, it could be interesting.

Integrating voice commands into games is something I've thought was neat since 1999 with a piece of PC software called Game Commander. It worked decently enough and I enjoyed using it with Space Combat Sims to manage systems and order wing men around. It'd be nice if they used it to bring something like Star Citizen to the xbox one since you'd never pull it off with just a controller.

Forza 5 will require a day 1 free DLC download - NeoGAF

Basically, the entire Forza 5 game doesn't come with the disc.

So, for those without broadband better check each game before buying. Hope more games don't do this. :(

It's not a Micrsoft thing, btw, it's the publiser.

I'm not sure a gaming future where I cannot re-sell old games, or be loaned them by the simple act of having been handed the disc, is one I or many others are able to accept at this time.

Software as a service is already a huge point of contention in the PC gaming market with the concerns of services like Steam or Origin being able to take the games away from you at the whims of its administrators. I get irritated when my PS3 or (former) Xbox360 had to call home to ensure the DLC I had installed was mine and not magically installed by computer voodoo priests.

Now, I don't know what the hell GameSpot get up to in the US, but I don't get the hate. Second Hand markets exist for just about everything; video games are no exception to this and I see no reason why they should be.

    Pretty much what Gordon said.

Besides, if I want a copy of a game, it's my copy and I can do whatever I want with it, especially if I plan on selling it in a few years.

Gamestop tends to rip people off on trade-in prices. Like offering only $20 on a month old game and then reselling it for $50. That kind of thing.

Nobody would've missed GS if they had gone under due to the DRM thing. It's the legit used game sales on Amazon, Ebay, whatever, and being able to loan games that people were really ticked off about losing.

That sounds neat in theory, but I'd hope a feature like that can be turned off. The people in the apartment upstairs are secretly elephants, and I could see that setting it off, not to mention other sources of noise, likes pets or children.

They should have pushed back the game so that at least all the tracks are on the disc, and playable without an extra download. AND do the free download with the cars. Almost like how Forza 4 is done. With 4, a bunch of cars is in a second disc, which needs to be downloaded on your hard drive to use (sucked for me with the 4g Xbox).

    GS is a total ripoff.

my friend took around 10 games to them, they offered him $20
i sold it for him on ebay and he made 125, of which ebay/paypal/shipping took around 30, but he still made around 90

I'm guessing hell broke loose in the original XBox One thread.

I'm still glad Microsoft took out the DRM crap, and despite was I've said in the old thread, I'm starting to warm up to the Xbox.
