Crap. How to take something unique, smart, funny and wonderful and turn it into something most likely nothing like its former self.
First thoughts: Darn, how short are they going to make those skirts? Second thoughts: See Twin Twist's post. Now it just looks like another anime show like Cardcaptor Sakura or something.
Please God, please make anime die....yes, all of it. Then maybe we can go back to the day of good cartoons that have pronouncable names and a plot that doesn't involve Alien Z from Planet A trying to take over the world with his fiendish hoards who are obsessed with capturing playing cards that hold the key to the universe and were created by the tears of children worldwide. Amen.
The fan comic "PPG Dojinshi" is something different all together. I liked PPG it was great but it hit or surpassed the WB standard so if they are going to do a new show I can't say that I mind that its anime. Those skirts are disturbingly short though.
this was announced almost a year ago, wouldn't exactly call it "newest" anymore anyway, there was speculation this was just an april fool's gag at the time, but it was shown at the festival right? seems it'd be real... anyway, there hasn't been a shred of news on it since that I've seen (I just looked a few weeks ago even)
i think i'll hold judgement until it's out, but it does not look too bad, toei animation is always a great animation studio, so if they are doing it, i will for sure, check this one out, at least one episode before i judge it, i mean the animation from the clips wasn't that bad, and the japanese was nice, but, with the japanese voice for mojo, he reminds me of dr. robotnic. the skirts, meh i'm used to seeing them like that, you just gotta not let that bother you, and with this actually BEING anime, instead of it being "american made anime" is a plus. i'll check it out.
I believe there was some press thing recently about a PPGZ launching in 2006, also if you go to network solutions and look up ppgz.com you will it is registered to Turner Broadcasting so yeah
