So i downloded the newest avg free and like it said rebooted my computer. When i did windows no longer loaded. I had windows 7 :'( help.

For the last 5 hours it says "repairing disc error"

I was in the middle of working on my term paper too. So really high anxiety.

 

If it's getting a bad disk error before Windows 7 loads, then it's probably really a bad disk unfortunately.

Well, I would let the drive checker run for hours.
It may be able to fix the bad sector -but that is a slim chance.

If not there's some things you can do to try to get the information of the machine.
This ranges from things that you can do yourself if you're comfortable with trying -or paying for data recovery.

It might be expensive, but I imagine nearly everything could be recovered by a competent data recovery tech.

 

Yeah, microsoft told me they could recover it.

 

When I had this problem I used a linux cd to boot the system and then I got my data off it.

 

Cool im glad there is still a chance i'd hate to lose all my porn and my resume too. I back up my porn monthly and its the end of the month.

Edit: found a printed copy of my resume. All i need is my porn nd school work off that comp.

Yeah it shouldn't be too hard to get the data recovered, I wouldn't worry at all. My computer got curb-stomped by a nasty virus not long ago so I know that anxiety. (I run an online business so I was super scared)

That's the best response to that question I can imagine.

Another option is to pull the affected hard drive out and put it in a caddy or external dock. Install a new HDD, install Windows and pull the data off the old disk as if it was an external.

Then destroy the old drive.

 

We are probably going to have to do that. The repair disc even got stuck in an endless loop.
