As I don't play PC version, is it really that bad now that it's free (as in bunch of new people who can't play)?

I have a 23 crate, I'll gladly take anything for it.
ADDITION: The PC version was really bad in the first week or so of F2P, most of the players who actually cared to get better aren't quite so bad now, and the others have left. CP Dustbowl was pretty much Heavy/Medics at the time.

skim the backpack and let me know, I'll have to catch you after work though.

And I loved when Dustbowl was like that, I played more Spy that first week of F2P than usual...

Because TF2 is the only game that allows you to customize your character's appearance.

Heh, forgot this thread existed. Anyways, I've been playing this game for a few weeks and I like it, since I can handle every class more or less effectively save the spy (just can't get a handle on how he works). It's rough starting out since you don't have any of the dropable weapons (unless you buy them), but at least you can unlock some through achievements and luck out on others. My enjoyment of the game has improved immensely since I unlocked Natascha and finally managed to start killing those Persian-Persuader wielding Demoknights that keep charging at me like the unstoppable Marvel Juggernaut.

I do have a ton of crates, though, and I'm on a Free-to-play account, so I don't know if I should buy the keys or buy one of the really cheap stuff to gain the ability to trade the crates away.

I havent bought anything (because I am cheap, I guess) and I'm using the free version. I think it's brilliant how they've only removed stuff like trading and premium blueprints (and shrunk inventories) to keep balance, allow free play, AND entice micropayments for stuff.

Trading crates is hard because everyone has a ton and keys just don't drop, you have to buy them. It is definitely worth dropping at least the 99 cents to buy some small thing, just to unlock trading and blueprints.

some of those don't exist yet
Fists of Steel, and Amputator don't have Strange versions yet, unless I'm completely missing something. (kinda weird for Sandman and the Boston Basher can be strange, but not the default bat, which I would love)

and you only get points for Kills, not assists, so I really doubt they're going to release a Strange Medigun.

anyway, now I'm looking for S. Ambassador or S. Revolver (would prefer Amb, but either would be fine)
    same hats as before
    S. Minigun or S. Natascha

I've started playing TF2 AT LAST!

But I have the subtle idea that I completely suck at this, the one time I played Online I was literally unable to kill more than two individuals before dying. Is that a bad score?

Eh, that's not bad at all for someone who just started out. I'm barely at 5 kills to 1 death, and I've been playing since May.
What classes do you/did you play as?

I usually play as Heavy, I die way too fast with the others [particularly the Spy, I can't grasp those stealthy skills] as they have much less health than him [though I'm not that bad with the Soldier either], Heavy is my specialty until now.

Besides, I just love to come out of a wall firing at will with my Machine Gun while screaming at the top of my lungs: "IT'S COWARD KILLIN' TIME!" [only to die three seconds later after killing one dude at most, but whatever].

Yeah, the problem with Heavy is that you're an enormous target. I never play as Heavy though, so I can't give you much advice other than:
-Make sure to watch your back, especially for suspicious players (IE: spies).
-Try to find a Medic which can pocket you and alert you about spies.
-If you're coming from a corner, spin up your minigun with Mouse 2, so you can take out any incoming enemies.

Which is why I always fire from hidden corners and/or nearby to walls.

I got killed twice that way! I'll be sure to watch my back more often.

I usually do that as well, I realized how efficient the Medic + Heavy combo was on offline training.

I do that as well [though not very oftenly because that technique slows down the already-slow-as-hell Heavy].

Do not play a spy and expect a decent kill/death ratio. That's not what the spy is about. It's all about sapping the other team's buildings and taking out their extreme threats (heavies, snipers). You're going to die a lot, you're not going to have a kill/death ratio worth bragging about, but with practice, the other team will curse your name!

Of the nine classes, I am really good at Heavy, Sniper, and Pyro, plus I'm not too bad as an Engineer either. Scout, Solder, Demo, and Medic I'm okay as. I find the spy hilarious, but I just can't get a good grip on how he works.

These are good tips, I will also add in that you should try to avoid standing around in the same place and/or in open areas. As a good heavy and sniper player, I can tell you that is exactly what snipers look for, because Heavies make great targets due to their slow speed. A Heavy might be able to survive a single headshot at full health, but only just and if there are other enemies attacking you'll want to get out of there.

Good strategy. I would also like to point out that while it's often overlooked, the shotgun/secondary firearm can be useful in tight situations such as when you're out of mini-gun ammo and you can't get to any in the heat of battle. With my heavy, I usually have either the sandvich for health replenishing in bad situations, or the shotgun from the newest heavy set; "The Family Business" where the 40% larger ammo capacity helps in critical situations at the cost of 15% damage.

Another tip is that the heavy can make a decent spychecker with the mini-gun. If you suspect a spy, open fire in the area you think he is. Unless friendly fire is turned on (and I don't think TF2 has that option, but I'm mentioning it just in case it does), you can't possibly hurt your allies or any friendly buildings. If a teammate reacts to getting hit by the bullets, he's not really your teammate.

A trick I use when playing heavy is to literally keep his back to the wall if possible so a spy can't get an easy backstab. I also sometimes will just randomly turn about and start firing right behind me, which has caught more than a few spies off guard when their target suddenly opens fire on them. I like using Natascha because of her ability to slow down targets, so it makes for an interesting change of roles when the spy suddenly can't run away from an angry heavy as fast as he normally could.

Unless you're expecting enemies to come around the corner any second, it's best not to keep the mini-gun spinning until you're close to a corner so you can preserve speed. Also, since you like ambushing, I highly recommend you don't use the Brass Beast, as it's spin up time is both slower AND will make you slower than a snail.

As an aside, I'm seriously considering upgrading my account simply because it's cheap and I'm quickly running out of room. The fact I found an achievement idle server that for some reason was running the Horseless Headless Horsemann enemy spawn constantly seems to have gotten me both the HHH's head and some haunted metal, the former being useless unless it's Halloween (it's a hat I think) and the latter is useless because I can't actually craft the Headtaker (I could care less about the hats) without a premium account, so they're just dead weight taking up two of my precious backpack slots, and unless I find a spare scout weapon to smelt with the fan o'war (I really do not like it as opposed to the Sandman or even the regular bat) I've only got one slot left.

And some class tips to new players:
-As a Scout, do your best to confront one player at a time, flanking them rather than attacking the front.
-With Soldier, firing directly at your opponent is a lot less effective than firing underneath them and hurting them with splash damage. If you run out of ammo on your rocket launcher's clip and your enemy is not fleeing, then pull out your shotgun to finish them off. It's more likely to result in a kill than reloading.
-When Pyro, airblasting makes your life a lot easier. Once you get the timing down, you'll be a Soldier's worst nightmare. You can also extinguish team mates if you want to be nice. Pyro is also great for Spy checking.
-Demoman is one of the harder classes to get right. But once you work out sticky bombs, they can be one of the most powerful weapons in the game.
-If you're babysitting intelligence or a capture point as an Engineer, try to put your sentry in a corner of some sort, so you can get people from all sides. Make sure to Spy check any players that get near your buildings.
-Try not to pocket single players as a Medic. Keep everyone overhealed if possible, and attack with your Syringe Gun or Bonesaw only if necessary.
-When playing Sniper, don't stay zoomed in for too long, or stay in the same place, lest you become unaware of your surroundings. Spies and opposing Snipers are some of your worst enemies.

Golden rule of everything: Go for the Medic first.

I have 420+ hours in this game and I still can't airblast. Is there any easy way to do it?
