You can preorder the PS3 slim from Kmart's website.
I wonder if August 24th is the day it will be available.
Seems kind of soon.

Between the outrageous price Sony wanted me to pay them to fix my 1-month-out-of-warranty system, that I need a new controller to replace the one my daughter slathered in Elmer's glue when I turned my back, and the amount I could sell my broken system for on ebay, the Slim at $299 is crazy tempting to me. Fixing my existing system, buying a new controller, and flipping my broken system for parts would end up costing more or less about the same as a new Slim, give or take an outlay of maybe $20-30.
The main thing I want is an IR solution so it will work with universal remotes. If they do that it will push me over the top and I'll be buying my second PS3.
