I'm pretty disappointed. I have every KOF game in some form except for 2006, across everything from Saturn to 360, and the lack of content is inexcusable. It's a 20 dollar game in a 60 dollar package. It LOOKS good, it PLAYS good, but the main game is absolutely nothing, no boss, and the online play sucks.

Kyo plays like '95 Kyo, and that's all good, but Iori is a big WTF now. Ralf is not nearly the powerhouse he was. I can deal with Ryo and Robert's iterations though.

Needs DLC characters and a boss NOW.

I was OK with gimped Iori because of story purposes, but if there's no story, I'm kinda grumpy. Def not dropping 60 on this.

    I have a different opinion.
I liked it that the SNK characters didn't have 1 projectile, 1 horizontal move, 1 vertical move, etc.

The Power Dunk was effective on the way up and down.
It also made people comfortable to where they would forget about the Rising Tackle.

If they follow the principle of "less is more" then why not remove the Crack Shoot?
It's basically the same as the Burn Knuckle.

I think the game looks beautiful.
I am impressed with the sound design.
But when main characters are missing, or are present without some of their moves, when the online play is broken, when there is no story and no extras of any kind then they don't get my $60.
    $30, maybe.

    Looks at Blazblue
    Make that $20

Actually, Crack Shoot has all kinds of weird properties. If the person goes from crouching to standing block in the time after active frames start, it had big frame advantage. Otherwise, it's unsafe. It's also an overhead.

Crack Shoot and Burn Knuckle function very differently in this. Crack shoot is not a 'move forward safely' kind of move.

Weird!! After the XBL update, I deleted the game and reinstalled it. It went from 3.4 GIG to 700 MB. That is a hell of a lot of dummy files.

The more I play, the more I like Ralf. This guy is a beast!

Which I think actually makes my point as well.
The Power Dunk is not just a vertical counter either.
It can also be used as an overhead and has certain scenarios where it's advantageous or detrimental to use.

I really wish I felt more like you, that the gameplay was being tightened, and less like the game is unfinished.

I've heard of that with a lot of other games, too.
Apparently there is some type of compression going on in the installs after the update, or update paths are set to only include the files that boost performance by running from the hard drive.

I plan on reinstalling Street Fighter when I get home.

I gotta agree with you. I haven't been too into fighting games for a long time, but made and exception with SF4, and the art in this made me keep an eye out for it. But, I do care about single player and non online components of home fighting games, and this sounds way too basic. Really, there's little excuse to make such an anorexic feature set for a full priced release these days. It's really too bad.

    Ignition 8/14 Patch Update

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the latest update on the patch:

    Quote:
The testing of the update is quickly coming to a end with extremely positive results! We just have to get Microsoft and Sony approvals now but we are targeting to have it available near the end of August. The game has an amazing group of fans and we want you to experience this update as soon as possible. Thanks for being patient everyone and we’ll see you online!

    Hell. Yes.

I'm telling all you old school fighting game fans out there...if this game gets patched properly, we're looking at a fighting game that could become the new Third Strike for Hardcore Gamers.

So, competitive play in this reminds me a LOT of CvS2 with some 3S style baiting in it.

Lots of fun to play, but it will require a good deal of player experience to learn how to apply the training mode stuff, etc.

I think she plays Kyo, Leona, and Athena right now...so there is a decent chance of that.

...and thanks, I plan to do a full gallery this weekend.

Since its KOF related I might aswell put it here.

Ever since hooking up my PS2 again i've been enjoying KOF 2000, 2001 and 2003. Games I've had but not played in ages, and i've enjoyed them so much that I recently bought the Complete Orochi Saga Collection (KOF 94, 95, 96, 97 & 98). And that was enough to get me totally hooked on KOF again. I just can't get enough of playing as Kim, the dude is insane and trying to get used to playing KOF correctly is actually enoyable. Who knew the hop would be so important :)

So now I've put down the money and have PS2 versions of 2002 and XI on the way along with the 360 version of XII. I'm uber excitied. :D  Am I right in guessing that XII plays pretty much the same as every other KOF incarnation?

I wish that you were right.
The new HD graphics make the game play differently.
There's a different timing to it.

I can live with that as it's a major progression of the series.

HOWEVER, the game is also unfinished.
The roster is small, the backgrounds are few, and you'll find your favorite characters are missing some moves altogether. :(

I really wanted to love KOF XII.
    I don't even like it.

Once you start playing the game you'll realize that its missing more than just Mai's chest.

I can see Recall noticing how "off" the game is after playing all those awesome entries in the series.

I prefer the feel of KOF12 to the older games. I genuinely feel like it was an improvement, but the support for the game was the worst...the worst.
