I wanna get my xbox live. I have a Linksys router, but not sure which wireless adapter I need.

I saw this type on ebay

what's the USB plug for? shouldn't it be ethernet type wiring?

It just plugs into the back of the 360 (around the top), and if it's working the light should turn on on it. Then it'll detect the available networks, pick yours and put in the WEP key and you're done.

That wireless adapter is just if you want to connect... well, wirelessly Just plugs into one of the USB ports on the 360 and bam! It picks up your wireless signal. Put in any security measures you've got any you're away.

The other option is to get an ethernet cable and hardwire the 360 to the router, which is what I do.

duh, why didn't I think of that this way....for some reason I was thinking this would be something that gets plugged into the router or computer. Thanks guys.

on that note, is around $60 shipped a good deal for one of these?

I'd definitely recommend this, from what I've seen the wired connections are so much better. My wireless is awful.

Really? the router is directly under the TV room, but I don't really wanna drill a hole...

I know what you mean but if you're planning on gaming online, hardwire is really the way to go. I tried wireless but the signal just drops all the time (admittedly that was from a PC). And that'll especially be the case through floors I think

Well, I'd recommend trying out the wireless first and see how strong your connection is. It's different for other people depending on how good their internet is, and if the wireless does the trick for you then just stick with it! If it keeps disconnecting you periodically and stuff (like my crappy wireless does) I'd consider drilling a hole if you intend to play online often. It can just get frustrating when you keep getting disconnected from Live all the time.

IMO wired is the best way to go. Your basically always guarenteed a really good connection.

But if wireless is more convenient, go for it.

As someone who's currently and always has been on a wireless connection, compared to my wired connection friends I have an awful connection. Absolutely awful. I'm thinking of moving my router and just making it a wired one just to see the improvement.
