Just got a DS...

...and snce I'm too lazy to search the manual, I'll post here.

Well, there is only 1 thing pissing me off about it. Whenever I choose to go "Back" or "Quit" in the main DS screen witht he calendar and all, this pops up: "The systeam will now shut down." and if I don't wanna stay in the screen I'm in, I'm forced to restart the console.

This is VERY annoying. Is there a way to change this?

It does that whenever you change something on the hardware in the settings area of the "desktop".

Yeah, pretty much any menu function besides playing games (even entering and exiting the pictochat lobby) requires a shut down, maybe the DSi will change that.

WOW, are you serious?

That REALLY sucks hard.

Even when I play my new Starfox game it does it. And it isn't just when I change a setting, it's when I go out of chats and shit also.

Will turning it on and off like that 1000+ times damage it?

Just do what everybody else does when they first get the DS, set up all your various little options (the time, your birthday, the date, alarm settings, theme color, screen name etc.), then be done with it. Pictochat will also require you to restart, but its like 3 seconds of your time, not that big of a deal. I don't have Starfox DS, but none of my other games have required a restart.

pictochat is fun for about the first week or so... i suggest clubhouse games though. then you can pictochat in color, online, while playing cards and chess

Haven't picked up my DS in a while. Might be my ticket to getting Resistance and Fable this month without breaking my bank.
