For those that missed it...They announced that you are going to be able to play your PSP on the TV via the PS3 and use the Dual Shock 3 as a controller.

Do you have to have your PSP connected, or can you just insert a game into the PS3 and play?

I'm psyched to see the Bayonetta trailer!

Coming from Platinum Games (the former, and brilliant, Clover Studios) and directed by Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, Bayonetta should be hitting PS3 (and 360) in the second half of 09.

You will need to connect your PS3 and PSP together. There's no UMD slot on the PS3.

But i'm assuming this is done through USB? If so that's pretty nice too. I don't mind the Component cables I have for my PSP, but a direct USB connect could be nicer.

Any idea if the new PSP/PS3 connectivity will work on all models of the PSP released so far?

It might be nice to play Phantasy Star 4 on the TV again.

Damn, I was misled earlier. Apparently it's only currently available to to Resistence: Retribution, though other games may make use of it.

Tokyo Game Show 2008: "PSP Plus" Brings DualShock Control To PSP

Quote:
Sony is adding rumble support to the PSP, in a roundabout way, courtesy of the DualShock 3. Using the new "PSP Plus" feature in games like Resistance: Retribution, owners of both the PSP and PlayStation 3 will be able to forego the portable platform's analog nub for a better control experience.

By plugging in your AV-output capable PSP (2000 and 3000 models) and connecting the PSP to the PS3 via USB, you'll be able to switch on PSP Plus control through Resistance 2. Doing so adds DualShock 3 control support, letting you play PSP games on your television with a PS3 controller. It disables aim assist in Resistance: Retribution and lets the player alter their control layout to take advantage of the PS3 controller's extra inputs.

The option requires that gamers have a copy of Resistance 2 in their PS3s, but will not require a firmware update for either the PSP or PS3.
TGS 08: PSP Plus adds DualShock 3 controller functionality - Joystiq

Quote:
One of Sony's upcoming PSP games, Resistance Retribution, will utilize a newly developed technology called "PSP Plus." The feature will allow players of Retribution to connect their systems to the PS3, in order to enable use of PS3 wireless controllers. Using the DualShock will enable dual-analog control in the game. In addition, rumble will be supported. This potential use of connectivity was hinted at in a patent filed over a year ago.

Other games may be able to potentially utilize PSP Plus -- however, it is currently a Retribution-only tech. Stay tuned as we reveal the exciting additions PS3's Resistance 2 and PSP's Resistance Retribution will bring (together!).
