Yes, Mawile and Absol needed evolutions. But why a MEGA evolution? Why "MegaMawile" and not "Jawile" or whatever?

I am kind of tickled that the first XY event will be a Torchic. My favorite line.

To be completely honest, I was talking before about it and I'm indifferent to them right now. I mean-- I think pokemon should only evolve twice at most, and if they have to add an extra evolution I'd rather it was a branch from the first one or just a new forme.

Saying that though, we don't have any idea how this is going to be handled. They have a bunch of old Pokemon getting new boosts etc, there could be disadvantages to these things.
In terms of Pokemon as a whole, theres always been a very strong "scientific research" element to the human characters, so who's to say they couldn't tap into that secret power eventually like now?

I dunno, whatever. I just want to play the game and enjoy it. I'll go back to worrying about load times instead  

 

It appears they are just a new forme, instead of an actual evolution. Serebii says they change into Mega in battle.

 

Ahh, see thats something I don't mind, you can have a power boost and gain some STAB bonus', but loose the ability to hold an item that could win you the game.

They look cool and all, buuuuuutttttt we'll see.
Problem with Pokemon is once it's in A game it's in EVERY game after it usually. Whatever, kids are going to go ape shit over this stuff.

Not really a fan of any of these Mega things. They kinda look (and sound like)... like bad fan art. Like, I *KNOW* I've seen an Absol with "angel wings" before, and maybe something like that Lucario.
Guess I could always just ignore it.

That mouse thing looks an awful lot like Raichu, so much so that I first thought it was MegaRaichu.

 

Mega-Mawile looks Pretty awesome. As does Mega-Forme Blaziken (Note to self: Breed a Blaziken before Gen IV)

I wonder if the Rabbit changes color in the winter like Deerling does? (Certain Species of Lagamorphs Do this for Camouflage)

'Mega Evolution'? Interesting to see Pokemon like Blaziken and Ampharos will have this ability. Evolution seems like the wrong word for it though if it's not a permanent change like normal Pokemon evolutions are and can only be used in battle. Seeing how Mewtwo's mega evolution has been handled so far in the anime, seems more like a form change. Course maybe the English language version might give the mega evolution a different name...

 

If the rabbit turns into a Jackalope, I'll be happy, but none of these news impresses me.

Rumours have formed a in depth discussion about these new forms. However these are not yet confirmed and may be entirely fake.

The Torchic event will allow you to gain a Torchic holding an item that is called "Blazenkenite " (which is true, the rest is probably not), which will allow him to be evolved into a MegaBlaziken instead of a normal one.

It is unknown if these items will all be event exclusive or can be found in the game once.

Other pokemon of the three lined evolutions will be handled the same, however if your pokemon is already evolved, the Mega Stone will act as a held item that will turn the pokemon into their mega forms at a cartain point in their battle, probably low health.



There is also a theory being passed that, Mega forms, are Team Flare's ultimate plan, creating designer Pokémon, to be sold at high prices. However with a Gym Leader who specializes in these, it is unknown if this is true.

Ya, this just proves that this gen is all about genetics.


If anything, Professor Sycamore's speciality, will be the alternate forms of Pokémon. Like Oak and Pokémon/human relationships, Elm and Pokémon breeding, Birch and habitats, Rownan and evolution and Juniper with the origins of Pokémon.

 

The only worry I have is I don't want these new guys to make the old guys redundant, really. I'd like the old Blazekin to hold up in a fight with the new one, etc.

Apart form guys like Mawile, I bet a lot of these designs were going to just be evolutions until the new gimmick came about.

Could this be how you get the new Eevee? They made a point about not saying how you achieve that evolution when they revealed it.

 

You mean Sylveon? I wouldn't think that'd be related to a mega evolution. They've mentioned there will be several new evolution mechanics in X/Y, so getting Sylveon will probably be something that hasn't been revealed yet.

Although now I'm wondering if there will be a MegaEevee...

 

So, based on this rumor, it's not so much a fourth evolutionary stage, but more of a form change that is permanent if your Pokemon is not fully evolved. I could deal with that. But why not make it a regular, permanent evolution for guys like Mawile and Absol?

That's... actually majorly cool.

 

Here me out though, we don't know if ALL of these Pokemon are going to have Mega a the beginning of their name. I can see it working for Pokemon like Blazekin because their evolutionary line has ended, apart from a slightly different silhouette and some new colour, it's not overly different. Pokemon like Absol and Mawile though I can see being an actual evolution that uses the same process.

This is just all speculation on my part, mind. I'm just throwing ideas out there. But I don't see why this new eeveloution can't use the same process to change. Especially if the game is based around Genetics... that's what Eevee is famous for.

 

I thought it was more or less hinted that Sylveon evolved via Pokemon Amie somehow?

Regardless, that makes me wonder if we'll get any Mega Eeveelutions. I'd LOVE a MegaFlareon or MegaJolteon.

I also wonder if we'll get Megas for the Kanto starters. I just can't imagine them giving one to Blaziken and Mewtwo and NOT Charizard. Plus, the Kanto starters are being marketed a fair bit, even appearing as a part of some XY merchandise like their inclusion in the first XY Zukan set.

 

Sylveon is all about promoting the brand new Fairy type though. I just don't see it being a Mega evolution of Eevee. But in the past whenever they've introduced a new Eeveelution, they've come in pairs...
