Rules for Video Games and Technology Seeing as the focus of this part of the boards is busier than ever and has changed focus, it's time for some new rules; 1: Use the search function It's likely there's already a thread discussing the game you've come to talk about, search and post there. So long as it's not "Wow this game is cool" and brings something new, informative or you have a question that hasn't been answered it won't be considered necro-posting. Have at it. 2:No blatant, warlike "System vs. System" threads. You may compare the three systems all you want, as long as it's done in an intelligent and civil manner. We will not tolerate threads deliberately designed to incite flamefests. They will be locked or deleted. 3: No flaming users or users' consoles. We all have our preferences, and some of us even have loyalties (however dumb that is). These should not and will not lead to out-and-out bashing of each others' systems. 4: Regarding Emulation: Seems not everyone knows just how to or not to tread on the topic so I'm clearing it up for you guys. 4a: Emulation That is the emulators themselves like ZSNES. Yes talk about them all you want, share links do as you please. 4b: ROMs: This is shadier territory. You want to talk about them, say you have them, discuss legality, anything just fine. There's only one line we draw on emulation. Don't provide direct links to ROMs or ROM sites. Same as our MP3 policy really. Of course the exception is Public Domain ROMs that don't belong to game companies such as Pong clones made by fans and freely distributed online. Such can be found at the definitive emulation website http://www.zophar.net 5: "Official Threads" Official threads can be started ONE MONTH before a games release. Sometimes there will already be a discussion for the game already open and thriving, if that's the case then that will become the Official Thread for that game when it's released or as soon as I can get around to it. Just use common sense and the search feature 6: One Game: Multiple Threads Keep this to an absoloute MINIMUM. If a game has a story and mutiplayer element, one thread to organise game nights and another to talk about story is fine (within REASON, if story discussion is going on in the "official" thread, keep it there). Use your common sense here. 7: Torrents Bit Torrent programs are fine to be discussed, but do not share links to pirated material If you feel that any of these rules have been violated, contact your friendly neighborhood mod.
I'm leaving this open for any discussion or comments you may have regarding the new rules. These are in effect as of right now, so please make sure you read and understand them.
What's the rule on things like console modifications? Topics such as: WiiKey PSP firmware's by Dark_Alex R4 Revolution / M3 Adapters Xbox soft modding PSX "game adapters" etc ... I wrote a guide on how to install custom firmwares onto the PSP, but would rather ask before posting. Thanks!
Could I start an official thread on the game Spore and it's expansion packs? I would love to start a thread for users here to show off their creations and discuss the game itself I think Spore may exceed WoW in popularity within next year. Last time I checked Spore had over 4 million users, and it increases well over 2,000 every day. WoW has like over 12 million users?
I just wanted to share this to see if its what your after. There is a Spore thread here: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/video-games-technology/188626-spore-11.html It is a little over a year old so i'm not overly sure whether Twist is fine with that being bumped back up but I do know its prefered to have only one thread covering a particular game. Back in the day the rule was talking about the modifications was OK as long as the links to where to DL or Buy such things were not posted, however things may have changed since I last was involved with how things were run.
