iPod issues - any idea?

I've got one of the orignal iPod videos (60gigs), not sure whether it's 5th gen or whatever. Lately it keeps crashing... big style.

If it's just charged, it works fine. As long as it's in the "sleep" mode (you know, where you just flick a button and it pops back to life instantly) then it's fine. But if it powers down completely, when you turn it back on again, the entire thing crashes 100% - won't turn off, won't restart, won't do a bloody thing. Have to wait until the battery runs out then recharge and start again.

Now the only clue is that it started happening around the time that I downloaded a software upgrade to v1.3 - but not sure of the exact dates etc.

Has anyone else had an issue with this? Or any idea how to fix the bloody thing, as I can't work out for the life of me how to downgrade the software, even with the help of guides on google it doesn't seem to work!

Damn, force recovery mode, change the drive letter, then restore again. If that doesn't work, format it.

Well formatting it worked - deleted the relevant update files from my update folder, told it NOT to automatically check, and I've been able to roll back the firmware.

Fingers crossed that fixes it!

Just as a heads up, rolling back your firmware usually causes these issues, and might cause some long term issues like unexpected bricking while doing an update. Good luck though!
