A lot of times directors get a hold of movie properties and try so hard to "leave their mark" that they make such a jumbled mess you are left wondering if the creative team of the remake even saw the original.
Look no further than Wicker Man.
Games are another story however.
Technology keeps making games a better medium to tell a story.
I could definitely see remakes of FF7, Silent Hill, and Grandia with today's tech. And as far as remakes in the vein of Bionic Commando Rearmed, the same gameplay style with current-gen graphics, there is a ton of material out there in the 8-bit and 16-bit games.
Can you imagine Castlevania: Bloodlines done the same way as Bionic Commando Rearmed? I can. Xbox Live :Adam Smasher | |

If anything* they need to do a Majora's Mask-type Zelda in Wind Waker style and timeline (aka, taking place after Phantom Hourglass).
* I can say this cab is rare,
