we can confirm that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D.
A bit of good news... to me anyways.

Hmmm, it does look sweet. Very happy to hear its pure 2d, six-button, same as ever controls. Still, I look forward to what is new then.

2d will probably hurt it's chance of being a big hit, sadly, but oh well, at least they're keeping it true to it's roots

Eff that there are still hardcore 2d fanboys out there and I happen to be one of them... SFA:3 will for me, always trump any 3d fighter no matter how flashy and well made it is.

I understand there's plenty of 2d fans, I'm one of them! But for this to be a mega hit in 2d format it'll be hard, as all of the 2d fighting fans and all the nostalgia involved with Street Fighter still won't amount to the sales they'll hope for. If we ever want to see more of the same, it does need to be a success. It seems like 2d is pretty much frowned on today unless it's on a handheld console. It doesn't matter if this doesn't become the most popular game ever, I don't need that to enjoy a game, but I just want to see it be a success and potentially open the door a bit for 2d and show that it still has merit. I hope the 2d aspect doesn't hurt it's chances, which I think realistically could happen.

the highest selling fighting game of the last generation was Super Smash Brothers melee, which is a strictly 2D gameplay with polygon characters. The same will be true of Brawl.

as long as the game has some depth, no one will care if you don't fight in a ring.
