Kotaku first reported and 1UP has now confirmed that the PSP Core Pack will be receiving a $30 price drop to $170, starting tomorrow. The new SKU, being dubbed the "core", will not come with headphones or a memory card; just the system and the AC adapter.

Does this move have anything to do with the recent rumors that retailers had given Sony an ultimatum to drop the PSP's price or else? We can't really say, but regardless, if you're looking to pick up a PSP, this is undoubtedly good news for you.

maybe you can't really call it a price drop as items are being removed...

so now i'm wondering, is the headphones and memory card worth $30...would it be better to get this "core" version and get my own MC and HP or get the other one.

and heh, forgot the DS is $130.

Maybe they revised them since, but the earphones that came with mine are low quality. As for the memory card, well the one that they included was too small in the first place, but removing the card doesn't really solve the size problem.

The PSP is a nice bit of hardware, but even if it was the same price as the DS I still wouldn't be interested. I only use my portable game systems for games, and the PSP just doesn't have anything I care about. The price drop is a good move though on Sony's part, for what it's worth.

Anyway. "Core" packs are becoming asinine. Its a kind of "screw you" buy performing a real price drop on the item. Especially by not including a memory card with the thing, seeing as how the PSP kinda really needs a memory card to be useful at all.

I really dont know how people can say this. There are a lot of really great games for the system.

I didn't say its games were bad at all. I just said it has nothing I care about. Which is true for me. There just aren't enough games for it that I want to play to get me to drop any amount of money on it.

I mean $170 to play Darkstalkers on a small screen, I like the game, but not that much.

For those who look at the PSP game library and find things they really want to play, then go for it and enjoy, at a new low price I might add!

Given that Memory sticks are so damn cheap these days, it was almost insulting that they give you the 8meg ones to begin with XD
