The History of Electronic Arts

Gamasutra put up an excellent article that covers the complete history of Electronic Arts:

http://gamasutra.com/features/20070216/fleming_01.shtml

The "Arts" in their name was, at one time, meant in the most literal sense: individual designers and programmers were given top billing for their creations on the front of the box, often in a bigger font than EA's.

We still have a little of that today, but it's far more superstar than artist.

And currently there's talk of buying 2K Sports from Take Two Interactive. How's that for history repeating itself.

I see that they didn't put in the date when EA turned into a soulless monster. I think it was around '97-'98.

EA was one of the best companies back in the day. Tons upon tons of amazing games in the 80's and early 90's. Today though? Ugh.
