ps3 region free-ness
has anyone tested or know for a fact about the region-freeness of the american ps3? because ive heard several things saying that will play all japanese ps1, ps2, ps3 and blu-rays, while ive also heard that it will only play japanese blu-rays not the games. does anyone know for sure?

PLays: PS3 games from everywhere.

Does not play: PS1 or PS2 games from regions not of it's like (ie Japanese wont play in American) nor will it do the same with Blue Ray.

So, for clarification, only PS3 games are region free. Hope that helps.

Really sucks that it's not region free for PS1-PS2 games, I was hoping for that, but ah well.

thats good it will play japanese ps3 games. but i could have sworn it would place japanese blu-rays. because i remember them talking about importing blu-ray godzilla movies and watching them

Blu-Ray isn't region-free, but it has fewer regions than DVD. USA and Japan are in the same Blu-Ray region. That's why you could import a Godzilla movie.

and another thing....i havent read anything about the Sony PS3 Downloadable games being region-free or not.

and can anyone inform me what the heck Sony's online game d/l store is called.

I didn't think it was exactly region free. I thought it was similar to the Xbox and Xbox 360 to where its up to the developers/publishers if they want to put region locks in.
