He looks to me like an updated version of the old Doom Marine. Mind they should have kept his original helmet design. I won't claim it's iconic or anything but it is more visually distinct than the new one.
http://twinfinite.net/2016/04/can-you-tell-if-this-is-doom-or-halo-5/ They should have shown videos of the Assassination kills ripped straight out of Halo, too. I'm still hopeful the campaign will be good, but with this game coming out in about four weeks I'm not very hopeful. I also played it on Xbox One and PC, and it's obviously not optimized for the PC at all. It looked exactly the same.
If you like your characters to look odd and your game to look like a cheap knock off of another game then I guess you're right.
Seriously it looks nothing like Halo 5 (unless every sci-fi game looks like Halo 5) and plays absolutely nothing like Halo 5. I mean, I don't recall Halo 5 having loadouts, no regenerating health, armour pick ups, health pickups, ammo packs that are universal, double jump, no sprint, regenerating equipment or simple movement in general. But wait! It's sci-fi and you shoot people! Must be a Halo ripoff. Please do tell how it's a Halo ripoff though.
I have to be honest, I didn't love the beta. Granted, I only had a chance to play about four or five matches, but it just didn't grab me like I hoped it would. I'm still interested in the singleplayer though.
The "generic Spartan design" was inspired by Doom in the first place. I see we have the "War Hammer is a ripoff of Warcraft", " Lord of the Rings is a Ripoff of Harry Potter", "Voltron is a ripoff of Power Rangers" effect in full swing already.
So how is running faster than halo, not having to reload, having to pick up armor, lack of sprint, demon transformation, taunts, 3 shot kill docket launchers, and double jumps like halo?
I didn't even know this game was already coming out until I saw commercials for it tonight during Better Call Saul. I'm going to have to let one of my friends know as he is a huge Doom fan.
Your only 'point' was that the player models looked like Spartans and that website that I've never heard of that has a really stupid article with pictures of Doom and Halo side-by-side; clearly showing the different visual styles... And those were your only points.
It almost feels like they tried to take elements of an Arena Shooter and merge them with modern FPS multiplayer mechanics, but they didn't put any real thought into how these elements should come together in a balanced way so the whole thing just ended up as a jumbled, incoherent mess that wears thin after a few hours of play. With just three weeks to release I doubt they'll manage to fix many of the underlying gameplay issues, as the Beta really just felt like a stress test/bug test rather than an actual test to gather feedback on game mechanics. Loadouts feel almost useless since the already limited weapon selection is further hindered by some weapons being completely underpowered. A few simple balancing tweaks and a couple of extra weapons could fix this, and since it was a Beta I'm hoping we'll see both implemented in the final release. Although this won't solve the bigger issues, it would go a long way towards making it a bit more fun. And I honestly think the game's biggest problem is the fun factor. You play it for a few hours, realize how boring and ultimately shallow it is in comparison to other offerings, and go off to play something else. I doubt it will have any staying power at all, and I'll be surprised if multiplayer doesn't die out completely before they finish releasing all the planned DLC. With all of that being said, in a Doom game, multiplayer doesn't particularly matter at all. You don't play Doom for the multiplayer, you play it for the singlerplayer, and I'm still confident that the singleplayer will be excellent.
I'm 44 years old. I've played the original Doom. I've played the original Halo. I understand the foundations of the genre and I understand how games borrow elements from each other. I never said that this Doom was ripping off Halo or that it felt like a Halo clone. I said that it felt like a watered down Halo. In trying to make Doom something for everyone I feel like they made it something that's not Doom -at least for the multiplayer. Turning into the Revenant was kind of cool, but it didn't feel like Doom to me when I was unleashing my Hellish powers on what appear to be a bunch of watered down Spartans who move 20 paces distance while taking 3 actual paces. The arena looks like a Halo arena with some candles on the ground. I didn't like it. I hope the campaign is good but with three weeks until the release I don't see the multiplayer being any good at all. Even the announcer sounded like just someone from the staff reading lines. You guys want to like it, fine. I don't need you to not like it.
Yes you did, as quoted above. Well, obviously they're not going to be launching a game that plays like a 1993 FPS. But it's totally OK to not like that and want something closer to the original. It's just a modern day Doom, which obviously isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. Seeing as Halo has no maps that are set in areas like that, not sure where you're getting that from. Unless there's a map I'm forgetting about. The only similarity that I could draw between them is that the maps are designed to be like arena maps. That is totally ok. I agree, the announcer was pretty meh. But, as has been stated, it's not a Halo rip-off, it's not a cheap knock off and people being in military space suits in a sci-fi game doesn't make them watered down Spartans. There is only so much that you can do with a humanoid in a suit, so naturally some things are going to look similar.
Never played this title before. Downloaded the beta, played it for a total of 30 minutes, then deleted it. This has got to be the most unbalanced shit I've ever played. How many hit markers do I have to give just to get punched through the chest as an insta-death? Forget that noise. Even if I'm doing well, whats the drive? Upgradeable armor? Yawn. New weapons? Pfft the weapons ive been using were already underpowered as hell. Taunts? Gestures? What is this, Doom Ops?
Are we really going to have a dick measuring contest between mostly mute, stoic people in space armor?
