I'm a little concerned with the fact that there has been no mention of an arcade release.

How about a little concern that there are no arcades?

Arcades are still semi-prevalent in Japan and are one of the ways Japanese players (in particular top players) can enjoy Street Fighter 4. It's odd that nothing has been said.

And yes, I am concerned with the fact that there's about two good arcades in the entire US, those being Next Level out in NY (run by Henry Cen) and Super Arcade out in California (run by Mike Watson).

Quite frankly, I'll take playing against real people at an arcade over playing console online any day. The satisfaction that comes from making someone put in more money to try and knock you off the machine is indescribable.

In japan arcades are still strong. And I wouldn't worry about an arcade release, noway they'll forgo that. I mean, that's still where most of the top japanese players practice after all.

While arcades are still common in Japan, it is not strong as you say it is. Having lived there and made numerous visits. I noticed that while the larger ones are still around, a few of them are no longer open. Also the type of games have made a lot of changes over the years. Rhythm games have taken popularity over fighting games/beet em ups/shooters. But I'm sure that an arcade version of SFV will grace Japanese arcades in the future. I'm certain it will make it's way to the US in barcades like Dave and Busters.

I know what all the press releases said, but saying "Playstation 4 is the only system Street Fighter V will ever appear on" does not mean that Street Fighter V Champion Edition will not appear on multiple consoles.

That's exactly what happened in the 16-bit days.
Nintendo bragged that they were the only system that would ever have Street Fighter II, and they were right. They were the only system that got Street Fighter II.
But the Genesis\Mega Drive got Street Fighter II: Champion Edition.
And the Mega Drive did not have a large installed user base in Japan.

I don't have sour grapes, I don't own either next gen system yet.
It's just that the announcement sounds very familiar.

Not that strong. I live in Japan. None anywhere around me. I'm not in Tokyo, but I'm not out in the countryside, either.

"Semi-prevalent" as SpencimusPrime said is closer to the truth. There are more than 2 good ones in the country, but things are not what they were 15-20 years ago.

I remember it. Back in early '94, I could spend an entire day on a Fatal Fury Special cab on a single 100 yen coin... There was about a 1 1/2 month span where I was completely undefeated... and for such a useless accomplishment, it really did make you feel like king of the world for that span of time. Just a memory now, though.

    Yeah, this.

And I've been burned way too many times to buy the first iteration of a Street Fighter game ever again. I'll wait for SF5 Super Turbo Whatever edition.

It just all comes down to the contract Sony made with Capcom. Sony's already notorious for getting console exclusives in fighting games and making sure they have an iron grip on them.

MK9 for example, where they made a deal with NRS for a guest character(Kratos) and part of the same deal was that NRS was forbidden from doing any kind of guest character at all for the 360 version. MS declined a guest character at first, but Sony made sure NRS couldn't do something else instead, like an extra MK character or something.

Then of course there's SFxT, where the PS3 version got Cole, BBA Mega Man, Pac-Man, and those 2 cats. And the 360 version got shafted in that regard. Especially with Mega Man and Pac-Man whose data was 100% complete and on the disc(not sure about Cole and the cats but they're Sony IPs regardless). Could have easily been unlocked later, but again Sony made sure that didn't happen.

Yeah, but they're still in a much better situation than the rest of the world. The few places that do have arcades over here are mostly just credit eating ticket spitters or upsized mobile games.

I've come to realize the fact that, no matter how much I complain about this game, I'm going to end up buying it. I'll play it. I'll buy a PS4 and a Stick for it.

I realized this after playing Street Fighter 4, a game I have many problems with, in various iterations for five years. Granted I slowed down a lot recently, and started playing more Capcom vs. SNK 2, Super Turbo, and various other games I like. But I still play SF4. Because I don't have the intestinal fortitude to forego a large player and competition base to just play old games, and just disguise this as a 'love of the series.'

So when I inevitably complain about SF5, likely in this thread, I'm just as much a part of the problem.

Completely hear you dude. Pretty much sums up exactly what my feelings are toward the SFIV series. I've just kinda been playing it because there isn't anything else atm.

Now that GG Xrd is coming out though (or already out depending on if you got the import), I can get back to a series I actually enjoy playing, and enjoy all aspects of the engine. Really have that drive to play again.

Hopefully SFV can capture that magic as well and not be just another SF to play because "it's what people are playing".

I haven't seen anything official from Capcom but anyone have any theory where this falls chronologically for Street Fighter? I'm going to guess somewhere between SF4 and SF3, but to be honest, I'd have no problem with it being before SF4 or even SF2.

No idea. There isn't enough info to formulate a guess really. One could say that Ryu perhaps looks a little older in the few seconds of gameplay we've seen, specifically the close up shot of his model. Then again it could just be his model being much more detailed than his SF4 model.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it could between SF4 and SF3. Or replacing SF3 in the timeline by Capcom retconning it. Ever since it was first revealed that SF4 takes place in-between SF2 and SF3 I've had the impression that Capcom wants to avoid dealing with SF3's story and how the state of the SF world might be after it's events. Cuz let's face it, Gill and his whole cult thing was pretty far out there and dark for a SF game. That's the kinda storyline I'd expect to see in a SNK or ArcSys game, maybe Namco, and not even bat an eye at it. But as far as SF goes, it was pretty out there.

Then again, maybe Capcom just chooses to distance themselves from SF3 since it could be seen as a big misstep for the SF series since from a commercial standpoint it fell way short of SF2's success. The Alpha series was probably a bigger success as well.

I have no problem with SF3's storyline.
They don't have to revisit it directly, but I don't want it retconned either.
And I'd love to see Alex appear in a SF game again.

I'd really like to see everyone with a new look, they could keep the classic costumes as alternate outfits.
Have Sakura be a young adult now.
Have Cody be out of prison.

Did you guys notice the guard break in the video?

Well they could retcon, but still keep all the characters that were introduced. I don't really care either way if they did or not, as I neither like nor hate SF3's story.

And yeah, saw the guard crush. Thank god for that. No more idiotic down/backing in the corner. Now people will have to actually fight.
