the drivers for my 980ti were giving me s**t but a fresh install and a restart seemed to have sorted it out. One thing that bugged me is that everything seemed more zoomed-in the screen res was fine but I had to go into chromes settings and go to 75% to get it looking right to me. edit i dont know why but the default zoom is 150%
It's probably ready to be installed on my computer right now. I'm a bit worried that it's going to break my 3d design and print programs. I'm also a little paranoid about a "free" windows - seems sketchy to me. It's not like MS doesn't own the world already anyway.
I'll upgrade to Windows 10 when Microsoft stops supporting Windows 7. So probably in about five or six years.
That means will will have to spend money for it than. It's only free for a year. I love 7 but if 10 free I'm hopping on. Then again I got a free copy of 7 on disc from school and I could just reinstall it on another hard drive.
Installed Enterprise early this morning then remembered it's bare bones until fall. Rolled back to 8.1, then downloaded the ISO for Windows 10 Pro and that's installing now. What a clusterfuck of a morning.
I still haven't had the ability to download it yet. Every time click the update to win 10 I get a notify me email when I can download it.
Use this: Windows 10 Downloading from the installed app puts you in a que. This allows you to handle the whole process yourself.
I'll upgrade when they stop supporting Vista. I haven't upgraded in years. I hate fucking with my computer because something always goes wrong. Gets me anxious and stressed just thinking about it. Unless of course 10 turns out to be super smooth, painless, etc. I may test it on my laptop, which is 7. At least this free for a year thing gives me plenty of time to consider.
More like it uses me. But it still works. (helps that it was pre-installed on my computer, no upgrading which I heard was nightmarish) Hence my apprehension. Do I dare disrupt the possible fragile balance of my current desktop with it's outdated programs? I've got some dinosaurs on this thing, like a flash program I still use that's trademark ended in 2002. I don't want to upgrade and find half my shit permanently unusable. How very helpful. What's actually so wrong with Vista? What can and can't it do?
I went against my own orders, and upgraded from 8.1 to 10. Seems to be okay, although I do have a weird video issue with Battlefield 2 that makes the game look like an old Vincent Price 3-D movie, when you don't wear those Red/Blue 3-D glasses... hopefully it's a matter of re-installing the video drivers. Of course, I did like Windows 8.1... and I say that knowing I'm in the minority... and more or less realize 10 came into being because everyone seemed to freak out that they lost their Start Menu. My initial impressions are that 10 feels like an overly busy version of 8.1, but I've only just started playing with it. I concur on the Vista sentiments... the only redeeming quality about that POS Operating System was that it was a smidge better than Windows ME... which was utter trash... Windows 7 is what Vista should've been, and was a decent operating system. I mean why torture yourself on Vista, when you could've stayed on XP and not have to deal with all the bugs.
Some people are unsure why they didn't name it 9. Its not that they're trying to distance themselves from 8, its that they can't use 9. It has to do with code used for 95 and 98. It would cause all sorts of bugs. I have had the option to upgrade already, and have played with the Beta on a virtual machine, but i'm not ready to update to it on my main pc just yet. I'm sure there will be some sort of bugs over the next few months, i think i'll wait a bit to be sure.
Vista is a resource hog. It is slow and inefficient. The recommended specs for processing it were higher than 7, 8 and the same as 10 and it came out in 07. It also has horrible security. It can easily get malware and viruses. Vista made me switch to os x. But 7 got me back on the windows train.
anybody get the upgrade yet? is it worth doing? i'm very hesitant on it. considering i play a lot of MMO's, and Korean MMO's tend to not work very well on windows 8+.
