Thought this might be worth its own thread. Nintendo recently announced during their last Direct that both the 3DS and the 3DS XL will be getting new models. It will have new built in buttons and a second circle pad, as well as better screens , NFC support, skins, larger battery, micro sd card support, and a faster CPU. Right now Xenoblade is the only confirmed new game that can only run on it.
Ehhhhh. The amiibo support is great and all. But, of course this would happen, right after I order a Smash Bros. XL, one of only 1000 in my country. FFS Ninty.
It is showing that if you look at a normal 3ds from the side it is all messed up. With the new one it will still be in 3d. I am probably going to buy this. I always said the only way I will get a new 3ds is if the add the 2nd stick.
Is the second stick the little tiny thing above the 4 standard face buttons on the right? I came into this thread to make fun of the circle pad for a fourth time and was slightly taken back by the inclusion of a second pad. Still awful though. Is it too hard to make a 3DS with a joystick?
The new screen is a HUGE improvement ,and the addition of the built-in C stick is nice (although not major) but I can't help but feel slightly pissed off. Finally bought a 3DS XL last year (the cool gold Triforce one) and I own a total of 3 games, 2 of them being digital downloads (Zelda Link Between Worlds, Mario 3D Land and Pokemon Y). I feel there just haven't been enough games that pique my interest in the year that I had it, so after finishing those games the thing has been collecting dust for a long time. Now I'm finally getting ready to play again with Smash Bros coming out and there's a new 3DS that feels like a big leap forward - the blurring screen has been my big annoyance with the system. I'm in no position to complain as the 3DS I bought improved on two things itself compared to earlier models (bigger screen, better battery), and I know that problem is mostly with ME, but Nintendo feels like Apple sometimes: there's no good moment to buy a system as you can be assured a better version comes out every year that instantly makes you feel bad about the one you own (a system that has been serving them well since the Game Boy Advance, I guess). The quality of the games doesn't change, of course, so I think I'll have to stick with my current one - which I was completely happy with until this Nintendo Direct Y U SO TEMPTING I don't speak Japanese, but with the Smash 3DS LL appearing in the Nintendo Direct talk during the new 3DS segment, I was under the impression the Smash 3DS will actually be the newer model instead of the earlier announced 'regular' XL? Of course, maybe that's only in Japan. Yup, the second stick is that tiny nub above the buttons on the right. It's basically a built-in circle pad, really. Never was a fan of the Gamecube C-stick, but it seems like it's mostly going to be used the same way: camera tilts and Smash Bros full smash moves...I think the regular circle pads on the system are fine, though - it would have been better to add that instead of the C-nub. Would greatly improve playing shooters on the system.
Jesus, couldn't they have done this in the first place? If I do jump on this model, it won't be anytime soon.
The xenoblade chronicles trailer reveals the prices at 16,000 and 18,800 yen. Converting that to US dollars and it is pretty much the same price as the current editions. Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS Reveal Trailer! - YouTube
I always felt like the DS/3DS (3DS is backwards compatible) had the best game library for years now. Lacking in shooters, yeah, but they have plenty of everything else. But I've always been partial to handhelds. Mostly a personal thing. My thumb cramps with circle pads. Didn't like it on the PSP and I don't like it here. But I'll take what I can get. A second pad is better than only one pad.
Fuck. I need that new 3DS LL then probably. I often play in 2D because it is too hard to keep it in the one angle, were it looks good. And I like that they have the buttons colored like on SNES. But I just bought a 3DS XL Zelda Edition this year.. Wait, they are larger then their predecessors? But I'm glad I bought the golden 3DS without Zelda and then Zelda separate as a module. But what happens to my other downloads? Can I transfer them to the new device by changing the SDcard? I wonder what the size difference of the display is then. Because I'm thinking about getting the regular New 3DS, because the buttons look better in full color. And the old 3DS XL could I lend to my brother, because he refuses to buy one. But he NEEDS to play the new Zelda He just doesn't know it yet.
Definitely upgrading. Have wanted this screen functionality and 2nd joystick for a long time. Love my 3ds XL but this is definitely a step up for the money.
Probably going to have to pick up the LL when it comes out then. That will make it 4 3ds models for me at that point, yikes.
That second stick (let's be honest that's a nipple) is fucking pathetic. Will buy the smaller one for the sake of portability and Xenoblade port.
Actual joysticks would clash with the clamshell design of the 3DS. Probably because they didn't want to lower the position of the buttons or it would have made playing with it uncomfortable. I doubt many games will make much use of the second circle pad, anyway.
So there mostly the same system but with less 3D blurr, a new joystick and two buttons? Easy pass for me.
