Good news for you, it seems that the Smash 3DS XL is actually based on the new model, at least in Japan. Monster Hunter 4G is also getting one.
The X button on my launch 3DS is starting to get a little finicky, so this is extremely welcome. I think I'm going to get one of these, probably the smaller one for portability sake. I was beginning to think that they were not going to do a GBC/DSi style revision this time, but here it is. I wondering how much better the 3D angles really are, and if the new nub will work on games that previously supported the circle pad pro.
That is a clever idea putting the second analogue stick right next to the buttons instead of putting it below the main buttons, now you can move the analogue stick with the top of your thumb and press x or y with the middle of your thumb, very clever nintendo
So, is this the next thing, like the 3DS was to the regular DS, or is it more like the DSi to the regular DS? I hop it's the latter, because I just finally bought my 3DS this past February.
Better CPU? = Check Second Analog Stick? = Check ZL & ZR Buttons? = Check NFC Built in? = Check Is Bendy preordering the US release? = Check The extra faceplates to get a custom looking 3DS without having to buy a brand new unit are just icing on the cake. More like the DSi to DS. Ouside of the better CPU for some games, it's the current 3DS with all the Circle Pad Pro functionality built-in (second stick and ZL & ZR buttons). So if you don't have a CCP, I'd order one off the web now (you can get XL versions from the web, and normal ones still at some Gamestops) before they become impossible to find unless Nintendo re-releases them. Also, if you have any interest in the Amiibo figures, you'll need the optional external reader (similar to what Skylanders for the 3DS already does) to use them compared to how this has NFC functionality built-in.
FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU SERIOUSLY. AFTER I GOT A BLACK 3DS XL?!? /endrant. I'll probably trade mine in for this one anyways...
Oh good, thanks! CCP? (Sorry, I'm really not much of a gamer, so I'm really sorry if I sound so stupid.) And what are Amiibo figures? One more (hopefully last) question: so any games that come out for this new system will be able to be played on the current 3DS, correct? That was my big impetus for buying a 3DS this past year: some games I was interested in were coming out for it, but not for the regular DS.
The CCP or Circle Pad Pro was an accessory that came out for the 3DS around the time of it's original launch to go with certain games: It wasn't used very much, but it's obvious they are resurrecting it with the exact same buttons on the New 3DS so people won't have to upgrade if they don't want to/can't afford it. Amiibos are Nintendo's foray into Skylanders-type games: People without the New 3DS will need to use the adapter at the bottom of this picture to read the NFC (Near Field Communication) chips in the figures, while the New 3DS has that functionality built in. As far as we know right now, the only game that "might" not run on the current 3DS and 3DSXL systems is the Xenoblade Chronicles port that's coming because it needs the horsepower of the New 3DS's new CPU. I suspect you'll be fine for awhile, but in a few years, it will be a Gameboy/Gameboy Color situation where the game covers will start to read "Only for the New 3DS".
Ccp = circle pad pro. It is an add on to current 3ds that adds a 2nd stick and triggers. Amiibo is Nintendo skylanders. Some games like xenoblade 3d will only work on the new edition but I'm sure 90% new games will work on current models.
Okay, thanks to you both! I'll wait until a game I want is just for the new system before I upgrade then. Thanks for allaying my foolish worries!
If they release a Zelda game that can only be played on these, then I will upgrade. As it stands, I haven't been using my original 3DS enough to warrant any type of upgrade.
Sounds like its a decent upgrade for the 3DS. If I hadn't bought my 3DSXL last year, I might have been interested.
That second circle pad looks very uncomfortable and much too small to use with any precision (looking at games like Kid Icarus, MGS, RE). Might be good enough for Smash Bros, though. The new triggers look a little awkward to use as well. Whatever, I'll reserve further judgement until I play with one in-hand. The improved screen looks real nice and I was planning on getting an XL at some point anyways.
What even uses the 2nd pad, and the Z-triggers? The improved 3d means nothing to me, as I really don't use it ever.
