While Cubex Huff is arguably a suitable stand-in for Masterpiece Drag (Huffer, for the Western fans), the figure has been notably plagued with issues from the factory that Cubex originally went with. Cubex has seemingly fixed their problems (to the point of not only going with a different factory for future production, but rebranding itself as "BadCube" because of the damage to the original company's reputation because of quality control issues).

While future problems may be avoided, those who have the Huff figure either have these issues present or could potentially experience them down the road. A few of our members here have come to your rescue to help you out with this! Read on:

In addressing the concerns of paint issues with the Cubex Huff figure, firehawc_69 points out that, the factory used "didn't wash the mold release off before painting, so the problem is under the paint." Additionally, regarding whether or not your figure has the present paint issues "it could also be a ticking time bomb. It doesn't have anything to do with room temperature."

JoeHavor suggests using Testors Flanker Blue/Grey. He adds, "It's not exact, but pretty close. In this [picture], the chest was repainted with it, while Huff's legs are still the original paint for comparison":

Solrac333 also comes to the rescue with his solution:

"I found paint that matches the original very closely and fixed mine. Krylon Colormaster Periwinkle. I got it from Michaels since Walmart did not have this color. I don't know if they make a gloss version. I think it would have been better. I wasn't able to apply it on all the spots but good enough for now. Had to clean take the original paint off, then clean and dry, apply masking tape to cover up the areas I didn't want paint, take the figure apart where the screws are. I could not remove the pin above the waist swivel so that part still has the original flaky paint":​

TFW2005.COM member Thundercracker adds:

"On a side note, if you want to get that pin for the waist out, Auto Zone sells a little cheap 4 piece set of picks/scratch awls that will do the trick. One of the picks has a 45 degree angle that works perfectly for that waist pin. It's made by Great Neck and has red handles."​

Just a bit of an update here:

While I like to keep Tutorials very streamlined, please take note of the time stamp of this post. Krylon is apparently making a branding shift to "MAX." I was able to pick up the Krylon paint used in this tutorial, but I had a difficult time tracking the paint down. Notably, when this tutorial was resourced here, this paint was very easy to find.

timcourtois and I were recently conversing about Cubex Huff, and he had the following to share here with everyone:

"The fine folks at Nankin Hobby in Ypsilanti gave me some help finding a good match for the paint on my Cubex Huff. I thought this would make a good update to the tutorial thread for him.

Basically, Ocean Gray is an almost perfect match - even better than the aforementioned Flanker Blue Gray.

I tested four different colors on my Huff's chest so you can see exactly how they match up to the original paint; I took a picture of it and it shows it really well:



For those who are still looking for that perfect paint-match for your chipping paint on Cubex Huff, I was able to test out several options at a hobby store and find the one that worked best. The winner is: MODEL MASTER OCEAN GRAY. See the picture: It's almost dead-on accurate to the original color, more so even than the aforementioned Flanker Blue Gray (which, to my eyes, is a little too much turquoise).
