Really ticks me off when you jump into a game of WFC or even any multiplayer game and you hear someone say 'who wants to do a boost game?'

If you can't level up/ get achievements without playing the game as normal, then get outa me face! Play the game right!

    ARGH!

This weekend I had five different guys send me messages asking me to help them boost.

Am I wrong here? Cause I thought most people play games for fun, not to plead with randomers to let them shoot them for XP points.

    That concludes my rant.

Already enough threads about this shit, which in all fairness doesn't really affect anyone. Xbox and PS3 give you the tools to avoid these people, flex them for your own good.

Boosting happens in every game that has achievements/trophies/perks linked to them.

As cold as this might sound: deal with it or move on. It isn’t going anywhere, but up.

If High Moon Studios hadn’t set ridiculously high experience benchmarks for each level in War For Cybertron, we probably wouldn’t have gamers boosting. You need about 330,000 EXP to reach level 25 multiply that by 4 and you get 1,320,000 exp points! That’s a lot of playing. I understand this number was fixed to keep gamers playing well after the games release, but isn’t that what DLC is for? Heck, longer campaigns would have done that too—I’m not complaining, I love the game. I’m just saying that those who don’t love the game are the ones more likely to move on once they’ve got what the need from the game.

It's annoying because you have to level up 4 classes to get Prime mode and the combined levels achievements, which is ridonkulous. This stuff works in CoD because you can absoloutely specialise to your strengths and still chug onward to prestige mode.

I'm a great Scientist, a barely competent Scout and a terrible Soldier and Leader but alas my team must suffer because I want those precious gamerscore points.

I agree the level requirements are a bit steep, but I see it as more of a marathon and less of a sprint. If you shot to level 100 over the course of a week, I'd feel like there was nothing left to work towards.

    And boosting is just anti-fun.

Fell into my first match 2 days ago of course on 4x xp. I had a bad connection so I thought it was the game acting weird with everyone standing in one place. At point B in Complex. We ll I kicked butt and earned POKE 2.0 then kill 2 more before the host quit.

To me, boosting defeats the purpose of the game.

The whole fun of gaming is the personal journey to achieve the goal which usually is climbing ranks to get to a special level with special priviledges. Also it's fun to unlock everything but working towards that is the experience.

If you hit the skip button it's like fast forwarding a song to the last 30 seconds. It may be your favorite part, but it last such a sort time and then you're bored because you have nothing left to listen to (in WFC's case play for)

It's ending the experience faster than it has to.

Well I can see a case for it being that some people are just eager to experience the fun of running around with everything unlocked. It's like using cheat codes in a single player game. Being able to go through levels without having to concern yourself with minor annoyances like dying make it easier, more relaxing. Although cheating is one thing, doing that MP is ridiculous.

Each team captures A and C respectively and then they all head to B where they have turns capturing it constantly to earn points.

The 1 time I ran into boosters I just pissed them all of by capturing A & C and killing them all at B. Earned about 10k which was awesome !

    Eh.

I've been playing this game semi-regularly for two months and was maybe 2/3 of the way leveled up. That's enough of a marathon for me.

I ended up in two different boosting games this weekend, one invited by a friend, another just by happenstance when I joined a random game. I have to take issue with the anti-fun comment. You know what's anti-fun? All the cheaters I run across in random matches taking advantage of glitches to ruin everyone's enjoyment but their own. I would say at least 1 out of every 3 or 4 matches I join has some asshole mixing abilities from different classes or using POKE 2.0 as a Scout.

By contrast, the boost games I was in, everyone was cool and just hanging out and talking and having a good time. Also, whenever there were about 10-15 seconds left in each match, we'd all storm the middle and have a huge frantic war to close the match out, which is AWESOME. In a regular match you never have all 10 people at one node fighting it out at once, and it's seriously the most fun I've had in 30+ hours of playing this game online.

Having said all that, I still spent more time playing regular matches than boosting this weekend.

Boosting is just the non-MMORPG equivalent of power leveling. I have zero problems with it, because most likely the people who do it hate the grind. I hate the grind...that's why I only play serious when 2x and 4x EXP roll around...otherwise I just don't think it is fun to slog out through hours upon hours just for one or two levels, considering there isn't enough of a carrot on a stick to hook you along.

CoD4 and MW2 got it perfect, as it gave you so many perks and guns to earn, and there was always something you WANTED to get. Like when I wanted the Model 1887s, and the ACR. I gladly grinded out for those without question. I just don't see this in War for Cybertron, which is a shame because I truly do love the game, but it's just that grinds turn me off almost totally.

You know, the funny thing is that when I was in a boosting game this weekend, if someone would leave and a random person would pop in and start fighting and trying to kill the boosters, they always, always got annihilated. Every. Single. Time.

The reason being, if you go into a full game, you're basically playing 1 on 5. The people on your team aren't helping you, and in fact if everyone's on party chat it's more like 1 on 9, because the people on your team are helping to track where you are and how much health you've got. And because everyone is bunched together anyway, even if you manage to kill someone, there's 4 other people on the team right there to take you out.

They'd talk a lot of crap, but at the end of the day they'd inevitably end up with 2 or 3 kills and 20 deaths. They don't stick around long when their Kill/death ratio suffers that badly.

I didn't realize what was going on until I saw everyone standing around not shooting each other at point B. Tell you what, I DID get a lot of kills that match! They all stood in the middle collecting points and I just lined up my rockets and grenades! And when my "team" tried to block my shots, all they ended up doing was shield me from the bullets.

Long story short, I just played normal until they quit. Hey I am not saying you can't do it, but don't get mad at me because I want to play the game.

Thanks Boosters for leaving me bad feedback for being "unsportsmanlike" even though you were shooting me. /dead horse :cry

Why didn't you just quit the game and find a proper one?

For all the complaining I see it's always the "real" players that act like pricks in these situations.

Yeah that annoyed the crap outa me too.

As for your massive brawl at the end - isn't that how it really should be played - all guns blazing all the time?

Not in Conquest. There's more strategy involved there than just straight up Deathmatch since you get more points for capturing nodes than for killing. If you're a Scout, it's usually better to cloak and run to a node than fight some random Soldier you run across. Sure, there's plenty of guns blazing, but it's not the goal of the game, and in any case how often are all 10 players in one location? That's the part that made it fun.

But is this what you said the goal of the game?
Just to achieve everything in this game and never play it again?
I thought games are about gaming fun, not to rush through it and throw it in the corner.

Has anyone stated they are going to quit playing when they max out all the classes?

    Nope.

The levelling system in this game is balls and if people wanna boost then what's the big deal? Smh.
