I still need to get it but I don't have the money for it right now hardback is expensive... unless they have a paperback version. Do they?

Also, I'm assuming it takes place before the game right?

It's before the game. So far it's good.

I'm doing 4 chapters a day, yeah it's a good read but it already drop the bomb on being a prequel to the game saying
Sentinel Prime held the Matrix of Leadership.
They said it's "rumored" though, but I'm still keeping an eye out LOL!

Thinking about this now...I think the line in the game about shaping Cybertron in his own image would be a good throw back to BW Megatron. It was always BW Megatron's goal to achieve what G1 Megatron could not.

The first few chapters take place before the game. Then there is a small portion near the middle that is a narrative written by Alpha Trion that spans a bit of time and catches the reader up on what has transpired during the war.

The last half follows the game rather loosely (or vice versa), but the same elements are there. If you have played the game, there will be parts where you find yourself thinking, "That's not right!" But by the end, it actually makes sense.

In all, its a good read with lots G1 goodness to be had.

You don't mind dropping some spoilers from the middle and end do you? I'm ok now with your comments on it's connection to the game. I just want to know how Orion became Optimus. Whats up with the AllSpark, Matrix and Vector Sigma. And if they went over anything regarding "The 13".

So far I'm on Chapter 8.

    Sure - no problem.

Orion and Megatron are called before the Council to air their grievances regarding the caste system. With Sentinal Prime missing and the violence by Megatron's followers escalating, the Council elevates Orion to Prime (renaming him Optimus Prime) and charge him with finding the Matrix of Leadership. Megatron is infuriated by this - he expected to be named Prime. Later, the Core tells Optimus that he was Prime in name only, that the Council did not have the power to give him that title. He was not Prime until Sential passed the title to him in Kaon Prison.

The story then moves to Alpha Trion's narrative. He discusses the initial days of the conflict, in which the Deception's "particular brand of anarchic tyranny" spread across the planet. Numerous cities and the battles that occurred there are discussed, including the siege and destruction of Crystal City by Devastator. Ultra Mangus and the Wreckers are introduced. It also briefly discusses to Optimus ejecting the Allspark into space. It resided in the Well of AllSparks, and new bots would materialize from there. Ultimately, the Decepticons end up controlling most of the planet.

The 13 were only briefly discussed in various parts. Alpha Trion is one of them and the only one left. Most Cybertronians believe they are just a myth. Megatronus, Vector Prime, and the Fallen are also mentioned. I believe there was another Prime mentioned, but I can't recall his name right now.

Alpha Trion installs Teletraan-1 on the Ark and remains behind on Cybertron at the end. He says Vector Sigma will protect him - what Vector Sigma is, is never really explained.

To me, it takes place before and during the timeframe of the game, since it discusses first meetings of:

    Soundwave/Megatron

    Megatron/Orion Pax

    Orion Pax/Jazz

but then since it ends with them leaving the planet, that is after the game time frame.

It is confusing though, as I saw in another thread that
Sentinel Prime had the Matrix of Leadership, as stated in the book, but when I read it, it said that was part of the original Prime's sword (the hilt) and is lost, and the Council has the newly appointed Optimus Prime go on a "Matrix Quest" to find it.

I like the book, but Megatron saying "woah there" was a little out of character.

I think the book stated it was a rumor among some Cybertronians that Sentinal Prime had the Matrix, but no one really knew. Most believed it to be just a myth.

That does not sound too bad, I was hoping him being made a Prime would have been a little more epic, maybe involving some kind of life threating situation. I always seen Orion Pax (84' cartoon) as a young Optimus but guess that's not the case in this book. He seems to be a mix with some Optronix as well. Looking back, this is a lot more "involved" than the DW version. But I can see him telling everyone to call him just Optimus like he's called in the game.

As for the AllSpark, I like that idea. Removing the life giving elements Vector Sigma had in the cartoon. But other than that, it does not clash "too much" with the game.

How sad that YET AGAIN, an attempt to make an official history of Cybertron fails miserably as conflicting accounts, both hailed as canon, are released simultaneously. If only the game had stuck to this story....

Yeah reading more, this book does not fit with the game at all. It seems like they just wanted to sell their new fiction and tried to sell it with the game to make some money. Yeah the game draws from this new fiction but once you hit the middle of the book....everything falls apart.

It's a good read but I'm not a fan of merging all known Transformers fiction into this new version of G1.

Reading from the Wiki summary, this book seems like a fusion of different backstories (G1, WFC, Movie, IDW Megatron Origin) into one.

They try to sell it as a WFC book, which is understandable seeing as that's the 'hot' thing right now..and at points it seems to match up, but it also contradicts (or matches up with other continuities).

    Definitely more a 'general' backstory.

read the whole book in a day. its awsome but just a few things about it bother me really. some of the different aspects of the different continuities few very shoe horned in to the story. especially the live movie aspects, i had to re read it as it seemed like it came from no where. i love the portrayal of starscream in in this story, he is bad ass. hate the fact that alot about his story (and most the book) flies in face of it being a "war for cybertron" prequel. The spelling and grammar in my copy is interesting too. also when they mention the combiners its does get confusion that they refer to them as constructicons regardless of which combiner group they are. great sorry even if some parts conflict with other parts it has been great being totally immersed in the g1 story for a day!

Overall I really enjoyed it, but I must say I enjoyed the first half more than the second. The second felt tacked on a bit, or like it could be/already was taken care of elsewhere.
