This is amazing, where did you get the 35mm images? Do you have stills or are you using the original film?

I just rewatched the shuttle attack scene and I don't know if Ultra Magnus being drawn and quartered is that much more brutal than Prowl's or Ironhide's deaths.

I also just rewatched Prime's entrance and there's a couple seconds showing Megatron running past Swoop after the Dinobot's failed attack. So it does place Megatron in the vicinity of Devastator at the right time. If anyone cares... Also the hole in the wall created by Devastator being pushed into it looks exactly like the one Prime finds Megatron in. It's neat to see these details now that I have the information to put them together.

Yeah looks like he bites the dust. Curious if the others where meant to die (mirage, sideswipe) too since they never appeared again after the movie.

    Thank, these were awesome!

It would be cool if they could turn these scenes into actual cartoons, color them, and throw them in the film the way they were originally going to be (all of them, not just these two) and release it for the 30th anniversary. But I'm sure that would be far too much work.

    Mirage and Red Alert's fate

Dug these out of my ancient collection (credits to the old wombatking site from 2004-2005 for having these up back then).

Don't want to steal any of Hitch's other surprises so I won't spoil the true fates of Smokescreen, Wheeljack and Trailbreaker and how they may or may not have been meant to survive.

Kudos if you catch the "name" of Autobot city...

    Enjoy

Hitch, keep releasing this stuff - Thanks!

I'm one of those old-timers who saw Transformers the movie in theaters the first week it was released. I was probably 11 or 12 yrs old at the time. I'm also one of those people who remembers a shot (or a pan) of more dead autobots besides Wheeljack and Windcharger. For years i've been called a crackpot, but do you have any material that would help verify this? In my mind I seem to remember perhaps Trailbreaker and/or Sideswipe in the pan. Remember, the original film was destroyed, what we have now was composed from other sources.

Holy crap. You guys are killing me. This stuff is freakin amazing. Is there an official list of who supposedly died in this battle on the autobots side? I always wondered what the entire casualty list was. These scenes are so cool, especially the Mirage/retracting drawbridge scenes.

That's interesting. I really didn't know it was destroyed. There must have been "some" amount of editing (whether scenes, music, etc) that was lost from the original version.

I know the feeling of knowing you saw something at some point. I can still recall seeing a Thundercats unreleased Berserker prototype in a mixed lot on ebay 12-13 years ago. To this day it haunts me that I never saved the image or bid on it. I have no proof, so I never bring it up as evidence, but I know I saw it.

Interesting stuff. If both scenes were animated then removed/replaced, what happened to that original footage? Is it sitting in a can somewhere with other deleted bits and bobs?

    Great stuff in this thread!
    Thanks.

I want to officially thank you for letting me know that Snarl is on the Quintesson ship. :thumb

I saw it in theaters when I was 12, too.
I don't remember there being more casualties.
My memory could be faulty, of course.

Seriously? That scene wouldn't have gone down well with the children? Not the fact that the greatest Autobot of all time and practically every kid's favorite had already died? I was traumatized Prime died. Just like watching characters the kids have grown to "know" like Ratchet, Iron Hide and Prowl just get slaughtered was brutal too. Watching a relatively "new" character like Ultra Magnus get torn apart would have been just another death scene IMO. Hell, the original movie has Spike saying "shit" in it, I wonder what made the creators so concerned about this particular scene.

Makes sense! Didn't care too much for the 2nd out take, but that first one would've been epic. I also agree with why they took it out.

I saw it in the theaters too and many times after. I recall seeing other Autobots in the movie, but then you never see them again. They never actually show them getting killed though.

When Hot Rod starts shooting at the Cons in the ship, Huffer, Blue Streak, Hound and Sun Streaker are standing with Kup. Which is sort of a mistake because later on Sun Streaker is flying with Prime when he gets to Earth. Hound is standing with him when he transforms to go after Megatron and the Cons. We never see these guys again. I think that's all they show.

Can look for yourself though, here's the whole movie:

The deleted scene where "Devastator falls" would still work in the film(without having to interrupt Prime's heroics) if it happens directly after the Dinobots attack. Right after the debris collapses on Swoop, instead of cutting away, the camera could just follow Devastator as he makes his way inside the building. Where he is cut off by Ultra Magnus and company. And then the following sequence can play out just like on the storyboards.

Inserting this scene back into the film would greatly benefit the storytelling because as it plays out in the original cut, Devastator is still a huge threat because the Dinobots weren't able to take him down. With Devastator being shown to have been dealt with, then only real threat left is Megatron. So when Prime says that Megatron must be stopped no matter the cost we, the audience, can agree with him. Without the added sequence, it's like, "sure, Megatron must be stopped, but what about Devastator?!?!"

The scene also answered a question I had when I was a kid, "Where the heck is Ultra Magnus?" We only see him at the very beginning of the battle and we don't see him again until Prime dies. Heck, we even see freakin' Blurr fighting off Decepticons but we don't get to see "the soldier" Ultra Magnus in the battle at all?

yeah. That would have been cool to see Ultra Magnus fighting in that scene. He was very absent in that and it does fill in the gap.

This is great to see scenes that where omitted from the movie finally get the light of day, great job. One thing I have always wondered about was how in the scene were the Decepticons are on board Astrotrain, right after Starscream throws Megatron off into the abyss of space, and everyone starts fighting to see who will be the new Decepticon leader, how did Starscream finally win that battle, is there any storyboards depicting this fight on Astrotrain?
