I was wondering what you guys would think if Takara or Hasbro started releasing Mp figures with G1 style boxes very similar like when these toys were released? Like boxes with bubble windows and the same g1 art they came with back then. Like all season one characters with box art in the back, and season 2 with same idea and season 3? I think it would be awesome.

I like the current boxes they come with now, but the g1 boxes were the best. I was looking at my collection and i took my Mp prowl and put him beside the original g1 box prowl and it looked really cool. I imagine how Mp Soundwave would look if he came in a open window style box like the one he was originally came in in 1984. I have seen some poeple display thier Mp figures with the original boxes behind the figures. Also if they came with catalogs like they did back then too. And came with that red bio reader too. How many of you would prefer that over the current boxes?

I would like if Hasbro decided to do that, as they can create some great stylized packaging. Takara's MP boxes can stay the way they are, to avoid pissing people off. I think it would be a big selling point for Hasbro MPs, as many have complained about the lack of a window on the newer Hasbro versions.

Yea i would agree with hasbro doing it, but they take to long and they dont release every Takara Mp figure that comes out. I just think one of the two should try it. The art and style of the boxes back then were so cool and i think helped in selling the toys. They really grabbed my attention as a kid along with what came inside.

I think that would be amazing. Maybe there is a secondary market for it.

I would love MPs in g1 style boxes, it would be the best! Takara must have considered it at the start but I see why it didn't happen. Too much of a risk as opposed to the obviously adult collector aimed minimal style they chose.

Yes. It would be amazing and epic for me. Masterpice is suppose to be the best representation of G1 figures and i think the boxes should pay tribute and should be the same as they did back then.

But what adult collector that grew up with these back then wouldn't want that?

Im sure maybe someone would, but i wouldnt understand it. For me i look at these Mp.figures and appreciate that we now have updated figures of those toys. And for me something is missing for me and its that i wish they did have g1 styled boxes. It would work and add alot to buying these figures.

This guy has already created some custom Masterpiece boxes in the style of the G1 boxes. Looks pretty good, I guess.

Would you want the art updated? I'm torn. I adore the G1 art. But it may be cool to see those same poses in the G1 style but updated graphics. I also think the box should be a 1 to 1 presentation. Flaps galore!

I agree with you 100% but would the Takara marketing department?

    That's more like it.

I need more G1 energy grid backgroud design in my life!

    edit:

Not my pic but this says it all ;)

I like G1 boxes but I have no use for them. I wouldn't want to have to worry about flap creases all over again. I like keeping my boxes in good condition, even bagging them or wrapping them to ward off shelf wear. My figures don't live in their boxes, so having a window box is of no use to me. That's where the Takara and new style Hasbro boxes are nice - they look great whether there is a figure inside them or not. I'd like the Hasbro MP boxes better if they had a window and a front flap like Quakewave and Scoria had, and maybe if they weren't larger than they need to be.

Primularchangel does a pretty good job on boxes, hopefully he can do more for those that want it. I'd be more in favor of the Commemorative Series or Dreamwave book-style type boxes for MP's more than straight G1 copies.

Unfortunately I can't remember where I got the pic from. I'm sure it was on this site somewhere though. I've looked for similar designs to print but I may have to look into photoshoping the design somehow.

Board member tekering made it for his own use, more pics of it are in Smokescreen's feedback thread. That reminds me, I need to see if I can get the tail light decals he made for all of the Datsuns.

He did a great thing there with that pic. Maybe tekering should design some G1 MP boxes? :)

That'd be ideal, Megatron! G1 packaging was a huuuge part of the toys' appeal for me growing up. It really made them look edgy, sophisticated, exciting, futuristic, high end... you name it! Loved the tech-y looking grids with either red or purple! The art and those tech specs set my imagination on fire, man!

G1 style boxes would have been cool from the start. I'd say updated artwork from IDW or something. Same pose though!
