I didn't ever own Monstructor or Abominus as a kid so I can't comment on this with too much knowledge.

However the beast tie-in could be a common ground to work off of.

 

It crossed me mind that the Terrorcons could share moulds with the Predacons (albeit with two different voyager moulds for Hun-Grr and Razorclaw). When ye think about it, their beast forms are oddly similar: Divebomb and Cutthroat could share a mould (with different tooling for the wings), as could Rampage and Sinnertwin, then use one mould with heavy retooling on each different version to make Tantrum, Headstrong, Blot and Rippersnapper.

I've no clue who could be the Legends figures for those sets, though. Maybe Snarler or Carnivac for Predaking, and someone like Squeezeplay or Bugly for Abominus?

 

A Devastator Titan Class? Impressive if it comes out... but unfortunate if you're a scale nut... It'd have to stand with an MP collection I'd say... because it'd just tower over the rest of the CW bots otherwise.

As silly as it sounds... I wouldn't have minded seeing a "Voyager" set composed of Devy's two core bots... and the rest of the limbs as they've always been... just for sake of cohesion with the rest of the CW line.

That said... you can bet folks will make a Headmaster Prowl for whatever Devastator does come out. (Honestly I'm surprised no one ever made one for the Maketoys or TFC Devastators.)

 

The Skywarps are a touch of a surprise since Thundercracker had no problem moving, but I called it with the Rattraps months ago. Thankfully Rhinox didn't stick around at retail. I'm wondering with those reruns of the Waspy wave if we'll have a repeat of 2008/2009 Cheetor/Dinobot incident.

 

Even tho the Combiner Wars line seems great now I am just not sure about all the repaints in later waves,after all the umpteen repaints a few years back for FOC Ruination that just left me a little iffy about trying to buy those repaints.And yes I know repaints are necessary for Hasbro to make money but if they are only gonna crank out repaints then chances are I am only gonna get a complete set of both Superion and Menasor when they come out in a few weeks or months,beyond that who knows it just depends on if they look good or not,just sayin'.

 

Seems like the 5th or 6th voyager would have to "go with" the Autobot team in some way... but perhaps the Silverbolt re-use could be an Autobot to team with them... "Star Saber" or ...?

And then that'd leave the 6th voyager up to be anybody. Only 3 new voyager molds seems too few. Maybe the 6th will be a "pre-mold" a la Optimus/Motormaster? I think Galvatron would make a great "mold-mate" to a potential Scattershot. (They're both 'flying space cannons'!)

 

Star Saber would be awesome. But I'm betting it'll be an Inferno remolded from Hot Spot.

 

With everything influenced with idw, StarSaber was evil there, wouldn't really call him an autobot in that continuum.

 

In IDW, you can be evil, and still be an Autobot. Think of them like political parties - there's a lot of people who claim an affiliation to one or the other that the rest of those members would really rather not be affiliated with.

 

Can't be. The 6th is supposed to be "A surprise use of the Silverbolt mold". So it's Bolt based.

 

Why does being "evil" matters? If a TF identifies as an Autobot, by all rights and privileges, that TF is an Autobot.

 

Also on the topic of Star Saber, Generations Armada Starscream depicted him as Armada Starscream with noble and honor, A Decepticon. But it represented IDW Starscream who was a dick who ruled Cybertron and at this point is an Nonaligned yet Autobot Friendly guy, so like an Autobot.

Or, in theory, what if a robot says they're an Autobot...but they don't really mean it because they're secretly a Decepticon? If they still claim to identify with the Autobots even though at least the audience knows they're still allied with the Decepticons in reality, are they still an Autobot at the face value of the claim, regardless of its insincerity?

I guess the real question here is; why does it matter? If Star Saber gets a toy, it's gonna be an Autobot and play up the original TF Victory "he's the leader" aspect because Autobots tend to sell better and there's no chance in hell Hasbro is going to get away with "religiously driven mass-murdering psychopath" for the bio anyway. When it comes to the toys, Hasbro will always default to the most basic version of the character and adapt it when need be (I.E. basically everybody in Generations wave 3 and 4), what the comic does is quite honestly irrelevant.

 

all this makes me want a tf ala punch/counterpunch where he switches from a vile, amoral and bloodthirsty autobot to an honorable, standup citizen who happens to be a decepticon.

 

In all rights even if said character (namely Doubledealer) claims he's an Autobot yet his actions are quite the opposite by him shooting and killing fellow Autobots no matter how you look at it he is 100000000% Decepticon,it is simple as that,you can sugar coat it all you want even if you take a pile of horse crap and cover it with sprinkles it is still basically horse crap.

Traditionaly autobots have a code that they abide to shooting and killing team mates is a big no no, unless your from pre optimus.

 

No, the fact that this conversation is skirting the edge of 'if they call themselves good but do bad things they're 100% bad.' Because that's a convo that can easily leave the toys behind, dig?

 

So I've just realized that Menasor has a 6th member in Legends size which kind of makes me want another repaint/remold to go with Optimus Prime.

Blackjack is intended to form Menasor's chest plate. Basically replacing the little Roller analog that came with the original Motormaster. So of course I really want a blue version as Autobot Roller. The vehicle modes don't really match but both characters were originally non-transforming drones that came with Optimus Prime and Motormaster. Though maybe with some retooling they could get Blackjack's vehicle mode looking less like a sleek car and more like... well, whatever the hell Roller is. I seriously don't even know what to call that.

And yes I know Windcharger already has a Legends scale figure being released in the same wave with Blackjack. That doesn't mean he can't also have a Deluxe figure, especially if they release him in a later wave. I also know they have no plans to make any of these figures except for Optimus Prime but I really want this Masquerade homage done. I don't know why they wouldn't do it because it's a perfect opportunity to... SELL MORE TOYS! Even if you never saw that episode of G1 I'm sure kids would still buy the the figures. The Autobot versions do have brighter more kid friendly colors so they may even sell more than their darker colored Decepticon counterparts... except maybe Dragstrip who I believe is bright yellow and we all know how Hasbro loves their yellow kid friendly colors. I don't really get it myself but there must be a reason why their main kid friendly characters tend to be mostly yellow. I'm guessing it's because of sales.
