I'm actually looking forward to getting these guys. I can't afford the 3rd party stuff (though I would love to get all combiners) So let's hope that they look better than what we saw.

 

I wouldn't be surprised to see G2 "Platinum" repaint sets of the Stunticons & Aerialbots (and Protectobots & Combaticons also if they happen). I could see Legends Seaspray to compliment Protectobots (rescue squads need a water vehicle) and a Beachcomber figure that some version of works for the Combaticons (styled after the Joe "Awe Striker" vehicle which got a lot of releases since 2000). Probably a Cobra Rattler colored version of Powerglide somewhere also.

Here's my prediction:

Four G1 1984 Autobots repainted from Menasor's limbs.

1. Mirage from Drag Strip
2. Sideswipe from Breakdown
3. Trailbreaker from Offroad
4. Wheeljack from Dead End

That way they can combine with the new 2015 Voyager Optimus Prime!

 

I think Wheeljack won't be part of the team. This is all IDW focused, so it will be Optimus' team in that current series. Right now, his team is: Arcee, Jazz, Kup, Sideswipe, Prowl, Sky Lynx, Cosmos, and Jetfire.

Arcee, Jetfire, Sky Lynx and Cosmos are out, two because they have toys already coming out and one doesn't fit anything we have and is too big.

Thus, we will get as the limbs Jazz, Kup, and Sideswipe, with another character being the final limb... maybe Prowl but I doubt it.

There will be 16 mass release deluxes and 6 voyagers. We know half of each. That leaves 8 Deluxe and 3 Voyagers to go, all of which are said to be combiners.

Available Deluxe Molds: 1 Helicopter, 3 Jets, 3 Cars, 1 Truck
Available Voyager Molds: Jet (I'm assuming they don't use OP/MM again)

Of the G1 Scramble-style combiners, the following vehicles make up the core sections, and would need to be Voyagers:

Hotspot - Firetruck
Scattershot - Futuristic jet
Onslaught - Ground-based weapons platform (or Swat vehicle)
Hun-Grr - Two headed dragon thing
Snaptrap - Turtle
Razorclaw - Lion


It's unlikely (but still possible) some other combiners and continuities could sneak in. Heatwave has been an Onslaught redeco in the past, for example - and he was recently used in Hasbro's limb-swap line. In the unlikely event that we got a G1 Predacon set, a Magnaboss redeco could also be possible with some significant alterations. Also unlikely, but still possible, would be the grouping of several non-combining teams into formally combining ones. Some Micromaster teams already combine, but it would be an easy leap to have one of the Patrols become its own combiner.

The Constructicons are a little tricky - Scrapper usually functions as theleader, but he's only a leg, in defiance of the Scramble teams. Considering the outcry of Geewunners in this thread, I don't think there's a way to do Devastator here without significant changes (and therefore complaints), despite them including 6th team members - it would normally be an ideal time.

We can probably assume that of the three unrevealed Voyagers, at least one is a retool of Silverbolt or one of the remaining two. I do think that Hotspot and Onslaught could share a mold with retooling - replace the crane/hose with missile launchers.

I am going to operate under the assumption that any "Masquerade" redeco is going to be reserved for a Platinum release; no comic pack in, and not counted as the 16 deluxes.

Despite all of the possibilities listed, I think it's most likely we get two more G1 teams, and a third un-teamed voyager to mix and swap arms with similar to Optimus. The 8 remaining limbs are pretty indicative of this.
I also think we have to rule the animal teams out. Those are pretty hard to retool into something else.

That leaves us with Constructicons, Technobots, Combaticons, and Protectobots.

Which groups could potentially share Deluxe molds with revealed toys? (Extreme stretches marked with * )
Helicopter - Blades, Vortex
Truck - First Aid*, Swindle
Car - Streetwise, Lightspeed
Jet - Strafe, Blast Off*

Notice how none of the Constructicons share a mold with these guys? Yet another strike against them. To complete the remaining groups, we absolutely need new molds of:
Motorcycle
Tank
Drilltank
...and possibly an ambulance & space shuttle as well. I would assume two new limbs and two retools per combiner.

Therefore, I think we get either Defensor or Computron and another Bruticus.

Defensor is probably the safer choice, with the caveat that it leaves Hasbro in the position of using the same helicopter mold in 3 of 4 waves, and I don't see that happening. Computron would probably be easier, but a harder sell (firetrucks and police cars are cooler than another red car and white jet).

We'll probably see 12/16 limbs and 5/6 voyagers at Toyfair.

 

The 2015 - Year of the combiner speculation thread!

So, without the awesome reveals from SDCC I think we´re all (most of us) excited about what the upcoming Combiner Wars has to offer, right? Also, we already started speculating about which the not-yet-revealed combiner teams might be... Therefore, let´s use this thread for speculating away!

Personally, I think the not-yet-revealed combiners for next year will be Bruticus and Defensor, since that would round out the original scramble city lineup of 1986. I could totally see that Hot Spot and Onslaught could share mold, since their original transformations are pretty similar. Alpha Bravo would be reused for both Blades and Vortex, and any random Aerialbot could be repurposed as (a more reasonable) Blast Off. Dead End´s mold could be retooled into Streetwise, etc...

Another thing, so far we´ve seen the new Optimus with jets for limbs... so is the idea here that he will replace Silverbolt occasionally? Or do you think he might get his own limbs? Would these be the classic Autobots sharing alt-modes with the Stunticons? If so, would Jazz, Sideswipe etc be acceptable with Stunticon transformations? (i.e. hoods flip backwards, not forwards...)

Might there be a possible repurposing for the Silverbolt mold? In that case, what? Lemme hear what you´re thinking!  

 

It's undoubtedly Bruticus and Defensor. Alpha Bravo is essentially a stealth Vortext repaint infiltrating the ranks of the Aerialbots and Offroad is probably a remolded First Aid.

You know that Optimus combiner picture looks close enough to Bruticus that I wouldn't be terribly mad if they made Onslaught out of a remolded Optimus mold. He'd even have the windshield chest.

 

Predictions:

0. While there will be some mold re-use, each G1 toy-inspired combiner will have at least three new molds, with each G1 toy-inspired combiner getting a new torso (no bets on what random Masquerade-type combiners will consist of)

1. At least one off the wall re-paint. Perhaps something like a do-over on Ruination, with a remold of a hypothetical Onslaught (or Hot Spot) for Pyro, then RotorStorm (Aerielbot heli), Guzzle (hypothetical Brawl), IronFist (Stunticon truck), and Leadfoot (Dragstrip).

2. G2 Amazon exclusives of at least one of the Stunticons or Aerialbots.

3. SDCC 2015 Exclusive Decepticon Air Assault Giftset: New heads on the Aerialbots

 

Here's another possibility... Funpub could revisit Nexus Prime. Got *plenty* of potential limbs to serve as the various bots.

 

I predict alot of mold retooling to get maximum reuse for the 2015 line.

Alpha Bravo will be used for both blades and Vortex.

The pickup truck stunticon will be retooled for both Red alert and Swindle.

a Motorcycle mold will be shared between Groove and Afterburner ( assuming they do not change up one or both of their altmodes)

Streetwise and lightspeed will probably be retooled from stunticons.

Strafe will be a retooled aerialbot or perhaps retooled from a new mold for Blastoff. Scattorshot could conceivably be a retooled Silverbolt.

Nosecone and Brawl will share a mold and one will be heavily retooled from the other.

As for Hotspot and Onslaught its hard to say i suppose it possible one could be a heavy retool of the other but it's hard to see how that might work.

as for other combiners I do not feel comfortable in guessing.

 

Sure, but that's really not "Generations 2015" so much as it is TFSS 4.0

 

Since they are all going to be Combiners, I guess we are not getting that Deluxe class Warpath mold Hardhead repaint again eh... Come on TakaraTOMY, pull another Ratbat please! I really want the Headmaster figures again whether they are Headmaster or not.

Anyway, I guess we will be getting Bruticus and Defensor figures, but I think one of them is going to look great with a very possible new Voyager class figure as its body, and major amount of retools for his limbs, and the other one is going to look crappy using only what they can repaint and very minor retools (FoC Ruination I am looking at you!).

Oh, and Amazon exclusive Generation 2 Superion repaint please!

 

Since they said this is an IDW Comic Book tie in, I expect to see a few things

Devastator with or without a Prowl.

Defensor, all 5 Protectobots are on the Lost Light, it can happen

but honestly thats it for right now.

Bruticus is a possibility maybe

Computron would be great as various retools.. but in IDW 3 of the Technobots are dead. so I don't expect to see him. At least not during the comic tie in portion. Down the road maybe they will do him.

 

Aren't the Constructicons in IDW?

I also hope that they're not ALL repaints.

 

I would love the stunticons repainted into the autobots who impersonated them.
