    Ebay:
Just know that if the buyer is using a 3rd party shipping company to get there item to canada, and say it is lost or never delivered its on the buyer, not you. I recently learned the hard way when some guy bought a few figures, using a california address, opened a case telling me he was in china and had not received the figures.. after two weeks of trying to locate the package. Which im sure the 3rd party shipper lost, I refunded his $ then called ebay, The guy said I should have called them first as It was the responsibility of the buyer for the loss of the parcel. so if you run into hiccups do yourself a favor and call customer support! :thumbs2:

Only had one experience where a guy in Canada refused to use the Global Shipping thing and the whole transaction was a giant headache.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Seller won auction and payed and had a Miami shipping address - 3 weeks later the guy said he never got his figures in Costa Rica and opened a case against me. I check the shipping info and it showed as delivered in Miami. I called Ebay and within 5 minutes the case was decided in my favor. If a buyer uses a proxy or 3rd party shipping company that voids any protection that the buyer had.

Also had another buyer try to scam me with a P.O. Box scam on Toyworld BII, but I don't ship to PO Boxes. Another case where it showed as delivered to his address, but the buyer tried to change the shipping address while the item was enroute. Really weird stuff.

So much easier to ship directly to the buyer, wherever said buyer is in the world. As long as the buyer covers the actual shipping cost, I don't see a problem. Sellers are just getting lazier and lazier. They can waste hours on Transformers fansites but can't stand waiting in line for 5 minutes at the post office (when there's actually a line!) to mail out something that they made money with.

The problem with intl shipping is if its not one of the 10-12 countries USPS has a tracking # agreement with, the intl buyer can open a case every time and get a refund as there's no delivery confirmation.

And also not specifically to you, but in general: any seller who actually goes to the post office nowadays is an idiot. The mailman already comes to every address in the country EVERY DAY. Now that eBay/Paypal let you print out a postage label at home, all you need is a $15 electric kitchen scale (or a $5 old school one) and you can do postage at home. Then put it in your mailbox with the flag up, and BAM no trip to the post office.

Yeah, I have used it and it works fine, much cheaper for me to ship to Erlanger than pay international tracking on my own.

I only hate shipping international because other countries hate processing mail from other countries they love to play throw the box in customs.

But how often will that happen to one individual? I've done thousands of transactions over the Internet over the past 15 years or so, most of them without tracking because that's how Canada Post works with regular airmail and I've never had anyone complain about not receiving their stuff and asking for a refund.

Doesn't work like that here, at least not yet.

I don't how much enforcement goes into it but INTL packages are by law, meant to be mailed out at the PO in person because paperwork has to be handed in and kept by the PO as a real hard copy. Also the mailman/woman won't take certain packages due to weight or somthing the size of metroplex.

Canada post has had tracking (from the USA) for at least 3 years.

You live in the USA and your mailman doesn't come every day?

For the Canadians who live close to the border, it's easier.

That bidder may go down to the US to visit friends, family, or job-related travel. Or a relative or friend who frequently travels up to meet said bidder.

I personally hate the Global Shipping Program. It gets shipped from the seller to some location in the US, then shipped again to me via a courier service. If I'm not home to pick it up (pretty much all the time, as I work 9-5, and that's when they deliver), which means I have to go to a warehouse across town to pick it up (they don't have many locations). It already takes 1 hour public transit to get to work, this place is one hour public transit from work into the opposite direction. Which means 2 hours from their warehouse back to my home.

Plus the fact that they occassionally open up my package, kinda bugs me.

Versus USPS to our Canada Post, where I can have 5 Canada Post locations within a 35-minute walking distance. But it's usually the closest one at 15 min walk.

So I pretty much avoid sellers with Global Shipping Program. It costs me more money and time to get my stuff from them.

Sidenote: I've ordered stuff from Amazon.ca, and they can use UPS, and they have 3 locations within 15 min bus ride, the closest one is 15 min walking distance (approx 5 min bus ride).

I have a similar problem. I set my international option as Global Shipping Program, and some guy in Peru is bidding on my Recon Ironhide. Peru isn't supported by the shipping program and I don't know what to do if he wins. I don't even know how he's gonna pay, since shipping to Peru isn't an option in the shipping price calculations.

This is not true either. There are weight/size limits obviously, but the USPS won't let you mail it to begin with, its not like it'll get to the other country and they'll just not deliver it because its too big.

And no, there's no "law" that says all intl packages have to be picked up in person. Some countries do this in practice because they (the packages) have customs does, but its because of the fees, not because they want the package delivered in person. They require the receiver to pay before they get the package. For example in Canada, UPS will deliver the package and a bill you have to pay later.

And I think I might have mis-read your original post here, so i'll re-reply.

I'm not trying to pick on any one person, I'm just trying to get correct info out there. I've been selling on eBay since 1999, and have 2600+ feedback

So I think what you're saying is INTL packages have to be handed in to the post office in the USA in person, because paperwork. That may at one time have been true, but it is no longer true. Anything you print out online (like through Paypal or usps.com) you can mail from your house. First class can just be left in the mailbox with the flag up, INTL Priority is supposed to be physically handed to the carrier, but it depends on the person. My guy doesn't care if I leave them so long as I've signed all 3 copies of the customs forms (and you have to have a supply of the clear plastic mailing envelopes on hand as well).

There is a simple way to fix this issue....send the item first class international (that goes up to the 4 pound limit ) and make sure it's REGISTERED mail.

    you get a tracking #
RRxxxxxxUS ....xxxx are the different numbers they print on the registered mail receipt...you will get insurance for about $44 automatically.
and that tracking # is trackable online.

I have sold and shipped this way for ebay to over 40 different countries and not had an issue.

You can actually cancel that users bid on your side. I believe if you click the view bid button then at the bottom it says cancel or retract bid. I forgot how its done.

global shipping to Canada is a SCAM!
they say it's to provide security that you won't get charged duty or handling fees, but onmost auctions, the extra fees are as much as the item, and there is no Fing way that CP would charge $30 duty and taxes on a $40 figure.

i REFUSE to do business with anyone who uses ebays global shipping service. in 15 years of use, i have only ever had 2 packages sent first class not arrive. I usually opt for higher shipping anyway with tracking, wich is still a fraction of the cost of the global shipping service.

and yes, they tend to open your package, and then re-tape it all up with ebay branded tape, and sometimes use UPS or Fed ex. AND THEY FUCKING SUCK!!

Please, don't use global shipping to send to Canada. it's a ebay money grab and is a huge slap in the face for us.
