So, the reason I put this in toy discussion is because with the Iacon package, they ship the stuff to you and I really just want the toys. With this being a really cool set and looking to be pretty well made, would it be best to buy the Iacon Package or wait to buy them on BBTS or TFSource? I was thinking Iacon Package cause I get other stuff with it while some of the BotCon sets go for over 400 dollars on BBTS and TFSource. Has anyone got one before? Is it better to get the package instead of waiting?
It really depends on how popular the box set figures to be, while some have gone up in value ( examples: the stunticon job from 2011 and the shattered glass set) others have either held their original sale price or dipped slightly ( wings of honor for example) This years it will probably be worth it due to Scorponok,Devcon and Ginrai.
If you really want the popular figures (scorponok, god ginrai) its worth buying the box set as they're likely going to go up in value. If you only want Ferak and cannonball, its probly better to buy those individually as they'll go down.
The Stunticon set isn't selling for anything special...it was selling for $400+ briefly when the combiner set that never materialized was announced, but since then, you'd be lucky to break even if you sold it, and most likely take a loss if you paid retail for it, especially after shipping and seller fees.
Personally the only figure I really want is Scorponok...so I'll take my chances and wait until about 6 months after Botcon when the initial "gotta have it right now" week-after-Botcon-hype-prices die down We'll see what I end up buying from the add-ons, but lately I've come out ahead by sticking to just the figures I want and waiting a bit after the 'con (Like I did this year with Electro, Starscream, Mirage and Obsidian...came in at just over $200 for all of them combined)
This is the first set I've considered getting for a few years, mainly due to Scorponok and Devcon. Might get a Boxed and Loose set and then sell on the boxed set and the loose figures I don't want, with the aim being to break even and therfore save a load on Scorponok's eventual price hike.
I'd check again if I were you. The Shattered glass sets are worth more. The 2011 stunticon set is actually pretty cheap. I've seen as low as $200 recently on Ebay. This year's set I would guess at the beginning will have a higher resale value and then drop below original purchasing price with in a year.
I'd say buy it from the club. BBTS and TFSource will have a markup, no doubt, so unless you want to wait several years for the initial hype to die down and the prices to drop (assuming that even happens), buying it directly from the people selling it is your cheapest option for the immediate future.
