Effect of Hydrogen Peroxide on Pins and Screws? I have a ROTF Brakedown that has yellowed; honestly it was kept in a dark cupboard for 90% of its lifetime... even my Henkei! Henkei! Alert has yellowed, but I am not screwing with that figure... I want to experiment with Hydrogen Peroxide by soaking Brakedown in it, but there is no way I can remove the pins; I am not touching soldering iron or any high temperature heat. I read from different places that Hydrogen Peroxide causes rust, but I also read that Hydrogen Peroxide is used as a solution to remove rust? So can anyone who has actually experimented on this, care to share the results?
Screws and pins will develop a white corrosion from the (2)HO if soaked. If you use the gel you can be somewhat more precise. Still, the white corrosion can be sanded off easily. Good luck!
Hmm, Good to know. I've been needing to restore a heavily yellowing G1 Snapdragon and thought a good peroxide soaking would do the trick..BUT I have been hesitant to do so before I get the facts. What would be the effect of the peroxide on the non-white parts (Turquoise, black, ext.)? ????
I would suggest digging into the Hisstank threads. There was a guy that did that to a storm shadow that was all yellowed, and he made a very detailed tutorial on how to do it. Ive never done it. but from what I hear..it works well.
Just a word of warning... I did a G1 Jetfire & Ramjet a couple of years ago, they looked absolutely perfect when I was done with them, but a couple of years down the road they both re-yellowed worse then before (no exaggeration they were literally the color of mustard). I hate to "that guy" that chimes in whenever this gets brought up, but I'd hate to see somebody ruin a figure.
The same thing happened to me. Every single thing that I did the peroxide treatment on ended up turning "mustard" a few months later. You also run the risk of the peroxide eating at the paint. It usually dulls it, but sometimes it starts turning red paint pink.
