Is G1 Hook's gun the same as the Gladiator Exo-Squad figures?

The only difference I knwo of is the one from the mech os a softer plastic, but don't have a G1 hook gun.

I assume the Robotech gun came before the Hook toy, not this toy but the design?

This is the only picture I can of the Gladiator Battloid I can find but I have the one I have had for years from the Exosquad line.

Wonder if this is something else they took from Robotech?

Okay that is weird. That version and it's recolor do have G1 Hooks gun.

Not sure if they really took the idea from Robotech/Macross or if it was just another one of those 90's part re-usage deals. I'm kind of leaning on the latter though.

The larger Exosquad green version didn't come with a gun, but the older large Mattel version did.

Yes the Exosquad figure came out in the 90's but the original Robotech figure that came out in had the same gun, but I assume it was larger than the 3 inch figure that came out in the Exosquad line.

This is a picture of it,Matchbox/Mattel made them.

It's hard to find any info on those Matchbox/Mattel toys, they re-did them in the Exosquad line as well but it looks like the new version of this mold got made with hands that were more closed and cae with no large gun in the Exosquad line.

There is this auction for a different sized Gladiator that may or may not have had a weapon.
Robotech Die Cast Collectors Civil Defense Unit Gladiator Battloid 1985 Matchbox | eBay

Just by dates this was released around the same time as Diaclone Construction Robo No.4 aka Hook. Diaclone Hook had the same accessories as his G1 self. I know there's a lack of detail, but nothing shows that the original had the gun. Neither the one that Nevermore linked too nor the one I linked even shows signs it could hold a gun. The hands were molded in such a way that they looked more like they were in a static pose. I still say that it was a simple cross re-use of weapons amongst action figures as was common during the 90's.

Even more odd than it jumped from Japan Diaclone in the 80's to Playmates toys in the 90's.

I think several companies produced multiple sized versions over the years.

Was there ever an older official version of Hook that was larger?
