    SPRINGER/SANDSTORM FINAL COMPARiSONS(G1 Compariisons,Decision help)

Alright so I have been doing quite of bit of research and comparisons with the new GEN 3.0 molds for springer and sandstorm. Now if your like me and want your toys to look as close to the g1 cartoon counterparts then this WILL help greatly. The RED dots in the pics Are the ones I recommend getting for that character as it is better suited for the onscreen counterpart, ALTHOUGH THIS THREAD IS MAINLY FOR COMPARISON PURPOSES. Now I am not biased as I do not own ANY of the figures and this is to help decide which ones to buy. NOTE: sandstorm is a little bit taller then springer in the cartoon(not by much though), Also their vehicles although similar are different in aesthetics.

    HELICOPTER MODE:
Now when I saw the new retool I was happy for other people but realized they kind of drifted from the cartoon design. The Digibashed sandstorm looks more closer to the onscreen counterpart and all that is needed is the additional 2 blades for the helicopter. Springers new figure is more closer to the comic then the cartoon, the Fp figure looks closer to it I think, I would mod it so that flap(blue windshield part that folds down on top of the other windshield) if it is possible to remove without hindering transformation I would as it would make it look even better.

    CAR MODE:
Again same as before the digibash sandstorm is close as the newer tooled mode as more kibble up top and larger back wheels? The FP springer no contest is closer to the g1 design.

    SANDSTORM ROBOT MODE:
Yeah the digi bash one is better, no kibble, the head could use a little improvement unfortunately from both figures but the digibash one is still closer in terms of colorscheme and head design.

    SPRINGER ROBOT MODE:
Still prefer the fp design as it is closer to the cartoon, maybe a new head and sword would also improve appearance for the figure. The new springer from what I hear is closer to the comics then the cartoon which is good, but I grew up with the cartoon not the comics.

    SIZE COMPARISON:

If you use the new springer for sandstorm then this size comparison makes sense because in the cartoon sandstorm was a smidge taller then springer(compare him to octane, same height as sandstorm). The size difference is not even huge maybe a head and 2 heads taller.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:
Ok, so I help this helps some people if you are going for sandstorm I would recommend picking up the new springer mold and repainting it to match the cartoon, maybe shave of the side nubs of the head and add 2 additional blades to the helicopter mode.

For springer, I'd recommend the FP one, just maybe don't add the guns to the vehicle mode(looks silly) change the copter blades (2 sets on shapeways) and to me I can live with the head, also that flap I mentioned before for the copter mode that folds onto the windshield if possible remove it, will look better.
UPDATE: added pic from movie/cartoon (better angles)
Some slight color differences, but this was known in the cartoon like when starscream gets colored thundercracker or doesn't even get colored his details. This was due to budget restrictions and animation errors.

Wait, so you're saying you actually think that its better to recolour an existing toy rather then to have it impressively retooled into a completely new and unique toy, just because one media looked a bit similar to it? Really?

And with Springer, sure the FP is somewhat more accurate to G1 in alt modes, but do you know why? Because the alt-modes in G! were terrible boxes with wheels/rotors with only passing resemblance to actual vehicles and FP also turns into terrible boxes with wheels/rotors and only passing resemblance to actual vehicles. Generations Springer wonderfully turns into three modes that all actually look like what they're supposed to be, not to mention that the robot mode is completely accurate to LSOTW Springer, while the FP just has a resemblance to the G1 Springer. Looking at them all side by side, I don't see how you can say that the Generations doesn't look the best and how anyone could recommend getting the FP over it.

You're completely leaving out the fact that Takara Tomy will probably recolor these guys to be more cartoon accurate.

Classics is meant to be a line that UPDATES and MODERNIZES the casts of previous series, mainly the western G1 cartoon and the Marvel comics, as well as a few characters from the Japanese shows. If you want total cartoon accuracy, I think you should invest in the Masterpiece line.

Your not reading what I sead carefully I said the whole point of this thread is if you are aiming for g1 cartoon accuracy, sorry if I didn't make that clearer up top :D  , I agree with you that that the new springer mold looks good, never said it looked bad, but it is more based on the comic design. Also don't be hating on springers original design, gotta love that blocky goodness XD

Yeah but it wont fix the back kibble, head, and will more less be the same just with paint detail and metallic color scheme.
Yes I understand that, your missing the point of the thread it is to help people make a decision and compare "IF" they are aiming for g1 cartoon accuracy, sorry I didn't make myself clearer :D . Lets be honest if I was to stick to buying mp I would have half the cast in maybe 20 years and We both know some characters would never get released due there sheer size XD .

I'm not bashing on the new figs, I love them and glad Hasbro is making them. The point of the thread is to help people compare and decide if they are aiming for g1 cartoon accuracy sorry if I didn't make that clearer :D  everyone. For me I got some minor OCD problems so I am picky.

For G1 cartoon accuracy I'd go for the original G1 Sandstorm. Face is wrong but the vehicle modes and the overall robot mode is toon accurate.

I'd agree Warbot makes a better toon acurate Springer.

I wish the sandstorm retool copter mode was more round in the front, but it is still good for what it is, but its not for me, I will do a custom one out of the springer mold based on the digibash color scheme.

If that's the most important thing then you're honestly better off just picking up the G1 toys. None of the third party or Generations toys are as accurate as those for all three modes overall aside from Sandstorm's face.

Not all United/Generations releases have metallic paint, and not all of them are minor repaints. Some are pretty extensively repainted or molded in different colors.

Thank God my OCD is limited to rearranging my spork collection the right way and drowning puppies.

I'm delighted with the new Springer and wont ever need another and I'm sure Sandy when he arrives will do the same job. Be happy people.......G1 is great but it's not the be all and end all of everything.

Thanks for starting an awesome thread to look at these two bots more closely. Just the kind of thing I like to stumble across on TFW2005.

I do like the looks of defender compared to the hastak versions, but I wish he was as tall as they are. The new molds are kinda busy and messy overall. I don't know exactly how I feel about them yet.

ive got some of these Hasbro versions and the takara versions preordered for now. Ill have to see what sticks in my collection when im settled. :)

I would love these characters to be released in the encore line.

Not sure if this was intended as a joke, but please don't make fun of/mock people with a disorder. OCD is not something to joke about and in some cases can be really bad.

But yes and I am sure other people will come to the same conclusion as the 2nd part of your statement, thread is for comparison purposes to help people.

this springer is the sexiest toy hasbro has come out in years and the sandstorm is frickin amazing

the digibash sandstorm is trash compared to the retools

I don't see how anyone could want that over the sandstorm we are getting

Cool thread. I had my Warbot Defender sealed for a while and only opened it a few days ago...That said, I wasn't sure if I wanted to get Generations Springer, but this thread has made it clear who is the better one, to me. I'll probably just get Sandstorm as he hasn't had many releases and I do prefer his look more than Springer. Preferably the TT version as well.

I can appreciate what you're doing, even though I've never been in the G1 Cartoon or die camp. One little note, it's Thrilling 30th, not Generations 3.0.

Oookay. Really? Warbot defenders vehicle mode looks nothing like any version of visual medium Springers. Warbot has 6 wheels, skirts on the front and exposed in the back, along with a chunky on top and narrow on the bottom design. Springer has 4 wheels, exposed fronts and skirts on the back, along with a heavy bottom and a narrower top overall design.

That much is obvious. Warbot is a piecemeal nightmare while 30th Springer is fun to transform.

But hey, get whatever you like. I'm pretty busy these days enjoying the hell out of my 30th Springer for what it is rather then what it's not.
