While I don't agree with the OP, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

For me, Warbot was cool, but a BITCH to transform, along with the worry I'd break an expensive toy if i did something wrong.

Springer was under $25. He turns into a car. He turns into a copter. He looks futuristic. I'm good!

So i would get rid of my defender, not waste the time or materials in repainting Springer to look like Sandstorm, and just enjoy them both for under $50.

I don't care about cartoon accuracy. I don't begrudge the OP for his concerns. And honestly, people giving him crap about his OCD is just obnoxious. A lot of people in this thread are sounding like they're going out of their minds that someone feels differently than they do. Ugh. Far be it from me to tell people how to respond, but it gets taken so personal so quickly. It's annoying.

Everyone, to each his own. I love the new Springer toy, I will be getting Sandstorm, and they are close enough for me.

Thank you for this. I mean it. I also hope that someone somewhere does a straight repaint of Springer as Sandstorm even if it's a ******edly rare exclusive. I'd hit it.

Is the flap on Sandstorm's back movable?

I think the promo shots have him mistransformed. I think it should sit around where it does on Springer.

    G1 toy!?

Like I said I think you best go and read the first page again and if you were to do so you would see the G1 Springer toy isn't mentioned at any point in the exchanges between SG and the OP, only the G1 toon, dude.

SG then craps all over it and then gets exposed for being a hypocrite for saying he would buy an MP version of springer, something that resembles a block with wheels and what not, which prompted my assessment!

I'm actually surprised at some of the responses to the OP's thread. He makes it clear that he knows the classics version is infact based on the IDW comics and not meant to be G1 toon accurate.

He then states what colour schemes and/or retooling or a lack of both would be required to make them more G1 toon accurate...that is....if you're interested in G1 toon accuracy! He doesn't objectively say one is better than other!

And, oh, I ignored SG's post because I felt it was absolute drivel not even worth a second of my time, anyone with half a brain can see he's been exposed for being a hypocrite!

Well, to be accurate, SG never specified whether he was talking about the toy or the cartoon:

See? Just "the alt-modes in G1". I guess I assumed he meant the toy because he brings up FP in the same sentence. He still says he enjoys the aesthetic of the cartoon, and collects Masterpiece because of the incredible way it brings those designs to reality. Or something like that.

Holy crap, people have different tastes? ZOMG! Seriously, the dude doesn't like the G1 design. Big whoop. Hell, I'm not a big fan of how the cartoon looks (too simplistic for my tastes), but the Masterpiece toys still look epic to me. SG voiced his opinion because that's kinda what you do in a forum: discuss and debate opinions on various things. True, he may have worded said opinion a little bluntly, but he didn't decide to argue with the OP when he clarified what this thread was for.

As for exposing any hypocrisy, your "assessment" came right the fuck outta nowhere. OP talks about cartoon accuracy, SG says he doesn't want that, OP confirms that he means "if" you want cartoon accuracy, SG says nada, you pop in and come up with a conclusion about whether SG would buy an MP Springer based on absolutely nothing.

I also don't see how wanting to buy a theoretical MP Springer makes SG a hypocrite. Maybe he wants a complete MP show cast collection. Maybe the theoretical toy will be so awesomely articulated and fun to play with that it'll override his distate for the original design. Maybe it'll actually make said design look good in his eyes. Who knows? You can't take someone to ask for something that hasn't even happened yet.

Despite the fact that he and I are saying the exact same thing: that you're bringing up things not related to the topic at hand and bashing someone for having different tastes to you. And if anyone with half a brain can see this supposed "hypocrisy", how come the only people responding to this pointless little feud are people shocked that SG is a dude? If you're trying to argue with someone, don't wave off their responses as "drivel not worth your time". Just makes you look like kind of a douche.

I dunno about you boys here but I'm impressed by Hasbro's effort in dishing out the Springer that I've always wanted.

I was abit worried about his face but after seeing the actual toy after they appeared on retail shelves, I was relieved.

I applaud to the fact that I now have an official toy that is Springer, doesn't cost me USD $80-$100 to own. :)

Now, if only Sandstorm had those copter blades in alt mode...

I don't care for either Sandstorm or Springer, but the fact that Sandstorm isn't coming with the rotor blades is kind of disappointing nonetheless.

Springer is one hell of an amazing toy, i did considered back in the day when warbot was released to buy him, but in all honestly not bashing anyone that likes him, it just kinda felt a bit off to me, that and the fact that some guys have had problems with warbots knees.

G1 is mostly comprised of bricks and a lot of nostalgia, if you like the toys its ok and there is nothing wrong with that. The same if you dislike em.

i just want to be able to play a little bit with the toys i buy before putting them on display instead of fearing i might broke something so expensive.

How am I a hypocrite? I say I like IDW's Springer design better than the original. Is that really so wrong? That doesnt mean I hate all of G1. Would I be happy if this theoretical Masterpiece Springer was the IDW design over the G1? No. Because that's not what the Masterpiece line is for, it's for making toon-accurate toys. The Generations line, on the other hand, is not for that, so I prefer IDW's design used there. And besides if you've never preferred a design that wasn't based on the cartoon then that's your problem, not mine.

Just because I say the alt modes of the G1 are just boxes with passing resemblance to vehicles, it doesnt mean I hate it anyway. Im just speaking the truth. Have you ever seen a car that looks like that? Futuristic or not, it doesn't look like a believable transportation.

And, as I have said before, I did make a mistake in my first post by misunderstanding the context of the first post, but the OP politely explained it to me and that was the end of it. Nobody wanted or needed you're random, irrelevant intervention pages later. The issue had reached a conclusion before you came in attacking me over things that have nothing to do with anything here.

Seriously, you're hate-on for me is odd and rather out of nowhere. As I mentioned beforehand, this isn't the first time you've come into a completely unrelated thread and started ranting about my Masterpiece collection. You need to get over whatever it is you have against me, because this is ridiculous.

I'll admit that that digibashed Sandstorm does look pretty sweet, but the actual retooled toy also looks badass. It has more kibble in bot mode than Springer, but that car looks like something out of The Road Warrior / Mad Max 2.

I don't even remember G1 Sandstorm, was he season 3? I kind of lost interest as a kid when things started going all futuristic/Cybertronian design, but nowadays I don't care as long as it looks cool. Even not knowing who the heck he was when I first saw the figure go up for order I was like "that thing is a must-buy". Having just started reading some of the recent comics, I'm quite happy to get some IDW comic designs. The Generations line really is meant to encompass the overall history of the brand and is not 80's G1 specific so I have no problem with some more modern designs in there. Blitzwing looks a lot like G1 mixed with Dreamwave with an Animated feature (face swapping), and Springer is just outright modern IDW.

Honestly, I don't find the added kibble to be bad either. It gives him a more distinctive silhouette. I like how the thrusters sort of hang behind him.

Plus I love the new dune buggy style bumper he gets.

Oh well. Cartoon accurate or not, I'm still buying the figure. Can't wait till he's on store shelves.

I appreciate the work you put into this, and collecting side-by-sides of all the modes and figures, even the digibashes, is really informative and helpful.

My collecting goals seem to be very much in line with yours, but my aesthetic senses bring me to different conclusions. To each his own, but a few relevant points:

    1. Warbot Defender is DEEPLY overrated. I was very excited to own this toy, and liked him a little less each day once I had him in hand. FP bent over backwards to "evoke" Springer while simultaneously making sure he looked nothing like Springer. From what I understand this is an intentional legal-defendability effort on their part. I see where you're seeing more similarities between Warbot and the G1 toon design, but other than certain key elements, the over all effect really isn't there. When I got my Warbot I was very excited, and when I explained to a friend how this was the first toy who actually looked like the character in 20+ years, her very apt response was "Other than the colors, they really don't look much alike." I disagreed then, but over time, yeah I saw it.

Also he's a NOT FUN toy.

    2. Sandstorm, agree with you on EVERYTHING except the "Kibble" quibble. While the VTOL/Tires are inaccurate kibble, the thing I like MOST about this retool is the big ol' column of orange-kibble towering behind his head. That is DAMN accurate (albeit different vehicle kibble vs. G1). I think it's the most iconic thing about Sandy's design. Over in Radicons there was some discussion about how to mistransform the toy to GIVE him his hoodie/kibble. Erring on the side of "Robot mode as primary display option" I think Sandstorm knocks it out of the park in robot form, and the Springer mold, even with a great paint job and a dandy head, is gonna be missing the key part of Sandy's design.

    But, whatever floats your space-car
